Praia Dona Ana, Lagos

4.3
#1 of 84 in Outdoors in Lagos
Golden sands, colorful rocks, and calm waters are characteristic of Praia Dona Ana, a small beach hidden from roads and development. Nestled amidst cliffs and surrounded by countless grottos and rocky outcroppings, the area is within walking distance of the city center and is accessible by a flight of stairs or by a boat. You can rent a lounge chair and an umbrella at the site, or just spread out your towel. When you're ready for a snack, visit one of the many cafes on the clifftops, which also offer views of the ocean. Look toward the horizon to see if you can spot groups of fishing vessels at work. • During the visit to the beaches of lakes we got it make lowering tide, which helped a lot to that visit would be more special. It is a tiny beach but that lowering the tide opens up a range of opportunities to learn about caves and hidden to access new beaches or walking or swimming, depends on the time and enjoy some of the charms of the Algarve, its crystal clear waters and turquoise, and stones eroded with its caves and cliffs. It is advisable to check the tides and go down to see how the beach is growing and leaves the view the splendor that faces the ocean. It has a snack bar with reasonable prices.

  • Nice beach, sand and caves to explore. If the water is too sudden deep with loose sand, which pulls you deeper in the water, just wait for the afternoon around 16 and you will be able to walk to the distances where you had to swim to during the earlier times of the day. The water level gets lower and lower, making things much better. Besides, there are some small facilities like beach bars. You can prefer to reach the beach through the hills if you want to see the landscape or you may prefer road.
  • Really beautiful view, but the beach is rather small. It can be quite hard to get there, as there is a lot of stairs. There are no public toilets. There is also a bar where you can eat and have a drink and use the restroom, but the line is long. And be careful not to be cut off by the tide while on the other side of the beach!
  • Beautiful beach. I taught myself the basics of snorkeling in the shallows here. Saw some beautiful stripy fish. Then had a sandwich at the snack bar at the bottom of the wooden steps and got food poisoning. Spent the next two days in the toilet at the hotel with diarrhoea, puking up undercooked pork. Don't eat pork from the Restaurant Marisol on this beach. The cook is not up to the job.
  • Lovely little church. Mixed denominations. Beautiful views over town and sea.
  • Amazing beach but cut my feet a few times. Swam away and to the right of the beach for nearly two hours in among all the caves and little beaches. Was absolutely stunning, clear blue water.

Where to stay in Lagos

The historical city core of Lagos is packed full of colorful buildings and bustling streets, some of which date as far back as the medieval period. Though the hotels in the central district are on the expensive side, you can put yourself right in the middle of the city's best restaurants, bars, and tourist attractions by reserving a room there. The center and outlying residential neighborhoods also boast plenty of more affordable options, including smaller hotels, guesthouses, and family-run inns that offer fewer amenities but put you in good position to get out and about on foot. As Lagos is a relatively small town, you'll be within walking distance of both of its premier stretches of beach from nearly any lodging. Those with a car or transportation can get even further afield to experience other nearby coastal areas.
