Praia da Batata, Lagos

#35 of 84 in Outdoors in Lagos
Praia da Balaia is a small satellite beach at the eastern end of its larger neighbour, Praia Santa Eulália, on the Atlantic south coast of the Algarve. Its is within the municipality of Albufeira and is 3.1km east of the town of Albufeira and 1.7km west of the coastal village of Olhos de Água.DescriptionThe beach is set into a small cove formed by recesses in the low cliffs and rock formations. The beach also includes several further sandy recesses running eastwards, some of which are only accessible during the very low tides. These smaller beaches are also known as Praia do Spout Silvas, a name rarely used. The western part of Balaia can be accessed via a set of wooden boardwalks and steps which lead down the side of the cliffs from the Holiday developments that lay to the north of this part of the shoreline. The steps are often in a poor state of repair due to storm damage.

  • In a region where beautiful beaches is usually complex and frustrating, this lovely beach town is really convenient. Composed of many small rocky coves, communicating with each other through steps carved into the rock, with a clear water will leave you amazed. Don't stop at the first more busy but to enter among others, where you can find peace of mind.

  • Nice clean beach close to the city center. beautiful clean water. if you want to eat at the beach take cash with you. you can't pay by card.  more »
  • This beach is connected to each other, as for example the beach two students, using a few passages dug into the rock, which can be crossed when the tide is low. Incredible photos are available. As sand, it is a more or less thin sand, mixed with seashells, perhaps may be recommended the use of a shoe for the most sensitive skins. The beach is accessed via a staircase, which is not easily accessible for people with reduced mobility. On the other hand it is forbidden, as in all, access for dogs.

  • My 4 year old loved playing here. It's a pity that now it's too cold to swim in the water in November. Would be great to be here in the summer.
  • Beautiful scenery, good Sandy swimming beach. Close to the city center, so a bit busy with tourists, families and other people. Free showers, drinking water and toilets.
  • Very small beach with very less crowd. Main attraction are the rocks and small small caves. If u are a beach lover and spend time alone, away from traffic and market sound then dis is not the place. It's just beside the road and there are restaurants all around. Plus point is , washrooms are very near.
  • One of the most beautiful beaches i ever saw. Recommend!
  • It's awful don't go. You'll hate it. All the cool kids go to meia praia.

Where to stay in Lagos

The historical city core of Lagos is packed full of colorful buildings and bustling streets, some of which date as far back as the medieval period. Though the hotels in the central district are on the expensive side, you can put yourself right in the middle of the city's best restaurants, bars, and tourist attractions by reserving a room there. The center and outlying residential neighborhoods also boast plenty of more affordable options, including smaller hotels, guesthouses, and family-run inns that offer fewer amenities but put you in good position to get out and about on foot. As Lagos is a relatively small town, you'll be within walking distance of both of its premier stretches of beach from nearly any lodging. Those with a car or transportation can get even further afield to experience other nearby coastal areas.
