  • In 1867 the first meeting for the founding of the Brotherhood. The 12 of August of that same year at Secretary of the brotherhood, in Guimarães, are drawn up the statutes of the Brotherhood (page 1 of the statutes). In 1869 are honored the first movers of Penha, the designated "Trinity antonina": father António José Ferreira Caldas, Father Antonio Ferreira Abreu and priest António Afonso de Carvalho. On 23 March 1872 are approved the statutes of the brotherhood of Nossa Senhora do Carmo da Penha. On 29 August 1886 founded the Commission of improvements of the Penha, year in which launched the first stone for the construction of the Castle and your Bell Tower on the highest rock of the cave Chapel of our Lady of Mount Carmel (Patron of the brotherhood). In 1923 is ranked the site of Penha as tourist resort. Reconstruction and development In 1930 starts the construction of the shrine after a terrifying fire in 1939 was inaugurated in 1947. True icon da Penha is a work of the illustrious Master architect José Marques da Silva. In 1937 starts running at the Tourist Board that replaces the Commission initiative. In 1953 is assigned the classification of archaeological site and Property in the public interest. In 1989 driven by Brotherhood of Penha and under the guidance of the Municipal Council of Guimarães is the Turipenha who came to build the cable car of Penha designed by the illustrious arch.. Noah Dinis. Is inaugurated by the Archbishop of Braga d. Eurico Dias Nogueira and the Mayor Dr. António Magalhães on day 24 June 1995. All these movements reflect the work done by the people who followed and that estimated the site. What we witness in Penha de today is the result of efforts gathered over the last three centuries by who yearns to offer the visitor a pleasant site of Penha.
