  • Beautiful and well tended garden surrounds the castle of Guimarães and where, legend has it, the battle of São Mamede.

  • The Palace of the Dukes of Braganza (typically called only Palace of the Dukes) was built in the 15th century, in Guimarães, by d. Afonso, 1st Duke of Braganza to your lover. When was the King with this, already had a luxurious residence for both. The Burgundian style of the Palace reflects your tastes acquired in travel through Europe, even though the current aspect has been recreated, so controversial, during the Estado Novo. Were vacated when the Dukes moved to the Ducal Palace of Vila Viçosa, period in which the building was being looted, losing your original form gradually that currently remains ignored. In 1933, under the Government of António de Oliveira Salazar, was transformed into the official residence of the President, after a controversial restoration campaign. Some rooms in your inside a Museum, Persian carpets, Flemish tapestries (themed about the Portuguese conquests in North Africa) and paintings, such as the Paschal Lamb of Josefa de Óbidos or the portrait of Catherine of Braganza. In tribute to the Portuguese maritime prowess, the ceiling of the Banqueting House plays the hull turned of a Caravel.

  • Beautiful story, easy access by car, next to each other, possibility to purchase tickets (tickets) together. 5 euros the Palace of the Dukes and EUR 2 the Castle, but if purchased together, is 6 euros. Worth the ride!

  • Very beautiful. Interesting with a very particular architecture. Nice museum inside with wonderful ceramics and tapestry. Outside is beautiful to. Love Guimaraes. Essential visit.
  • A beautiful place, inside and out. You must visit if you're in the area of Guimarães. First Sunday of the month has free entry. Easy to get to, train from Porto cheap and easy. Rooms set out well and good interpretation in various languages. Good historical furniture and contents. Want to go again.
  • A bit expensive but definitely worth it because the interiors are beautiful
  • History of Portugal... Long time ago
