Garden
Perched atop a hill overlooking the picturesque port city, Palheiro Gardens draws visitors from around the world with its vast collection of camellias, which includes several species that are more than two centuries old. The English-style gardens sit about 500 m (1,600 ft) above sea level and benefit from a microclimate ideal for growing a range of native and exotic plants from Africa, Australia, and China. The focal point of this manicured park is an 18th century manor house that was originally built as a hunting lodge. Open throughout the year, the gardens form part of a large estate boasting its own hotel, golf course, and orchid nursery. • Nice gardens, long drive to car park, so if you go by bus or taxi be aware of quite a long walk before you get to the gardens. Well set out and very tidy, lots of gardeners working, unusual plants and...  more »
  • You must be no Gartennerd in this great, very well maintained plant the soul to dangle. Varied views of plants from all over the world is possible. You should afford an off-plan, to really see at all corners.

  • This is a garden not to be missed. We were there in April rhododendrons, azaleas, the agapanthus, the camellias were in bloom. The trees are beautiful, Oaks, beech, cedar, eucalyptus... The House was to tale Carvalhal and the hotel part of the castles relays! There is also a nice Chapel, St. John, built by the tale. In short, a not to miss out.

  • The garden was indeed but by the fires in 2016 and visiting in late October there are hardly any flowers to be seen. The garden layout is OK but the entrance price of 10.50 Euros each is way over the top.
  • Great garden with large plant specimens of rare-looking types. Many camellias also very old verurwaldete copies. Big old Magnolia trees. The selling point of the system is located in particular vegetation. Who is interested in flowering plants planted in rows, will be replaced immediately after the withering, may not really be found. The system is less mountainous/steep as Jardim Botanico and Monte tropical garden. At the beginning, you must run a piece, but rather just. The plant is also significantly quieter / less full than the two aforementioned and acts in total quiet and relaxed.
