Must see · Garden · Nature / Park
The beautiful Monte Palace Madeira surrounds a palace built by Alfredo Guilherme Rodrigues when he acquired the property in 1897. The garden aspect was established 100 years later in 1987 and features exotic plants as well as native ones, primarily from the Madeira forest. Travel along pathways past lakes with koi fish. View artworks integrated into the landscape, such as the garden's ceramic tile collection from the 15th century. A museum houses an exhibit of contemporary Zimbabwean sculpture and a collection of minerals and gems from around the world. • Lots of flowers in a well-maintained landscape. Free entry. A cafe with a spectacular orange cake, well worth all of its 7 euros. And the best of it all is the view over town. Absolutely recommended. There is also a hotel in the garden which shares the spectacular views. Check the clouds before you go up: if you can see the mountain station of the cable car, all is well.
  • Amazing and HUGE gardens. A must see if you come to Funchal. If you like taking photos of beautiful things you've come to the right place. There's quite a bit of walking involved so you can easily spend a whole day walking around. You can also get the cable car to the top entrance. Highly recommend.
  • These GARDENS are high up on the mountainside and can be reached either by cable car or BUS. It has a really good restaurant with a nice balcony overlooking the gardens. The gardens themselves are spread over the hill and are wide and varied. A number of waterfalls, Japanese gardens and ponds brimming with fish. I would say that you could spend 2 to 3 hours comfortably in the gardens and then have lunch on top. If this review was helpful hit the Like button please.
  • We went up with the gondola 🚠 and had a great afternoon with the Family in the Tropical Gardens. Just a spectacular view over the city. The different plants and ponds are just magical! You dive into a fairytale world, it’s a must see but only if the weather is right. We loved it and we would recommend it to everybody.
  • This has to be a must for any garden lovers visiting Madeira. A variety of plants and tress imaginatively laid out. We took the cable car up to the gardens and the entrance is opposite the cable car station. The cafe in the gardens at the top was excellent but the one towards the bottom of the gardens was not so good.
