View interactive displays about Madeira's history and culture at Madeira Story Centre, presented chronologically from the volcanic eruptions that created the island to current trends. See realistic-looking busts of historical characters and pirates, and read about the ways of life at this isolated site on the Atlantic Ocean. Explore Madeira's 14 million years of existence through the use of sight, sound, smell, and games, and then step out to the terrace to peer through the binoculars for a panoramic view of Funchal's Old Town. Check out the gift shop where you can get traditional souvenirs, such as Madeiran caps and boots. Work out when and for how long to visit Madeira Story Centre and other Funchal attractions using our handy Funchal tourist route planner.

One of my new favorite places on this planet. We spent a short day exploring this beautiful town. I recommend the violin restaurant by the gondolas first pillar. The steak on the stone was phenomenal (be ready to flip it yourself and cook it to your own taste. If you like your meat well done, cut it into thinner slices).
I loved the museum, Nice rich information on the discovery, on columbus and the structure of the island please note you can also buy a double pass teleferico-museum, it'll be cheaper if you are visiting monte anyways.
Great food and beer also good views of the surrounding areas
City center a great place to visit.
The museum is closed since 2015, february 15th. Very sad
