  • The construction of St. Peter's Catholic Church began in the year 1590 and lasted until 1743, when the altar was erected. Side-altars and altar of the Church are richly decorated with wooden carvings in the form of grape bunches and leaves and cobs of corn. Executing the ornament of the Church was sponsored by Joao de Murarolimom, his remains are buried here. The dome is crowned by a cockerel. Free entrance during the service. Located near the Municipal square. Leaving the Church on your right, you can climb up to the monastery of St. Clara and Museum Quinta das Cruz, as well as the fortress of Funchal.
