  • Interesting Fort, representing a castle and territory for military purposes, is located in the Centre of Funchal. Part of the building belongs to the military, they are visible, then there is a working military part, another can be visited. Before entering the yard stand gun and several prototypes. Inside the building (by the way it is, with rich interiors, Hist) samples of small arms, documents, maps, uniforms and many documents and photos. In addition, Fort obtained excellent shots of the city, beautiful views.

  • Remind us the armillary spheres (apparatus for astronomical demonstrations) that stand with the Portuguese coat of arms with the Royal Crown and the cross of the Knights of Christ (who somewhat resembles that of the Knights of Malta ...) These signs are located at the entrance of the Eastern Tower and have the insignia of King John III who wanted this fortress in 1530, now become the imposing palazzo we see. At the end of 1500 it was the seat of the Spanish Governor of the island.
