Cathedral Se, Funchal
(3.7/5 based on 600+ reviews on the web)
One of Madeira's few surviving colonial-era churches, Cathedral Se serves as an intact example of Portuguese Gothic architecture. Visit the cathedral, opened in 1514, and admire its squat, sturdy construction featuring a bell tower and wide, arched doorway. You can wander the building's three interior naves, which are full of ornate wooden furniture and carvings and which feature a vaulted, wooden ceiling. You'll find that the backs of the chairs are themselves are adorned with depictions of religious figures. Don't miss seeing the silver cross of King Manuel, one of the best-preserved and most well-regarded pieces of its kind from that era in Portugal's history. A visit to Cathedral Se represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Funchal trip generator to plot your vacation.

  • It's placed in the old zone near the Atlantic Ocean and an the Catedral Albergheria. The staff îs very polite and very effecient ready to satisfy all the demands of the clients. From the hotel terasse on the 5 floor there is a panoramic vistaview of a large area of the town. The services are functioning excellenty.
  • Cosy place, with a great panoramic view open to all guests on the top floor.
  • Not sure if they've updated this hotel since my visit in 2006. Back then it was quite dusty. Breakfast wasn't anything special.
  • Amazing building
  • Although the price is interesting quality is low. Half renovated, I don't want to imagine how it was before. WIMP mattresses, bath with foul-smelling of plastic shower curtains. Simple simple breakfast. All dark and warm. Carpet everywhere. That Yes, it is in the heart of Funchal in front of Sé (Cathedral)
