Blandy's Winelodge, Funchal

(4.2/5 based on 2,000+ reviews on the web)
Observe Madeira winemaking practices at Blandy's Winelodge, where you can hear the company's stories and learn about its history. Operating since 1840, the winery ages its wines using the traditional canteiro method, involving 650 casks, tunnels, vats, changing temperatures, and varying humidity levels. Reserve one of the guided tours to see their cellars, wooden rooms, and huge barrels, and get a chance to taste some of their products. Among numerous wines at the site, you'll have the chance to purchase a golden vintage dating back to 1920 and a deep, dark-brown Madeira bouquet with spices, toffee, and vanilla from 1958. • Guided visit was very good. Did the premium tasting as well (2 glasses). Lasted 45minutes for 5.90 eur so not bad and 10%off purchases
  • Fantastic wine. Complex tastes and great variety. Noticed someone left a review that the wine was expensive and gave it 3 stars and that's not fair. The wine is certainly priced well. In London I can't buy anything like it for that price tag. A 1988 cost me 300 here and in London it would easily be north of 600. Anyways, staff were great too. Definitely worth a visit and/or taste.
  • The place is nice and old Be had the shortest tour to visit the winelodge, it was 30 mins. Everything is about the wine in the island. At the end we had a free wine which was only a sip. Wine is very good.
  • An amazing place that gives a very informative insight into the Madeira wine trade and its history. Worth every penny.
  • Very nice tour with very pretty woman who was taking about history and the place with passion. Very interesting with delicious wine tasting at the end.
