Centro Interpretativo dos Almendres
Amid olive and cork trees on a hillside, find Centro Interpretativo dos Almendres, the most important Megalithic site in Portugal. With 96 stones, this archeological complex is one of the largest groups of its kind in Europe. Discover the various structures that make up this impressive site, including cromlechs and menhir stones. Take in the scenic landscape and explore the site's history, which stretches back thousands of years. View the recently discovered formation, which wasn't known until Henrique Leonor Pina happened upon it while doing fieldwork in 1966. These stones were erected between the sixth and fourth millennium BCE, from the Neolithic to Chalcolithic periods, and were most likely used for religious and ceremonial purposes. Put Centro Interpretativo dos Almendres at the forefront of your travel plans using our Evora trip planner.

These stones are so worth seeing, I can't begin to tell you how amazing they are. There's a small shop/information centre on the way, which is also worth a stop. Plenty of facts, notice boards... more »

Very disappointed with this site... nothing so amazing or mind blowing as people here say... I would skip this easily and nothing would change... more »

Okay. Some stones. Quite a lot of kids running about (including ours!) so maybe not the vibe of quiet contemplation etc the stone circles might have!
-
Very knowledgeable and helpful staff. Nice local arts and crafts.
-
New small interpretive center that puts the nearby megalithic into context.
-
The people who work here are real lovers. Mandatory stop before visiting the monument itself. In addition to very funny replicas of megíthic pieces, souvenirs, etc... TB If you can drink a mini-fresh one. The explanatory panels are excellent.See original

A modern space. Some local items and souvenirs are available for sale. You can have a coffee or some ice cream. Public toilet.See original
