Portugal dos Pequenitos, Coimbra

#1 of 17 in Historic Sites in Coimbra
At Portugal dos Pequenitos, explore a miniature world displaying scaled-down versions of some of Portugal's most important monuments and buildings. The attraction was built in 1940 in honor of the nation's people, history, and cultural influence. While best suited for children, who will enjoy interacting with the exhibits and feeling large in this small world, adults will also find the historical value of the displays interesting. View a copy of the famous window from the Convento de Cristo in the historic city of Tomar, various monuments from the capital of Lisbon, and traditional houses. Check out the costume museum which includes over 300 pieces of miniature clothing, the naval museum full of tiny ships, and the furniture museum with small pieces handcrafted from exotic woods. Also, stop by the different pavilions dedicated to the former Portuguese colonies. The park lacks covered areas, so keep this in mind on hot days. • It had been years wanting to go back to this place that I visited child. This time I brought my three children (1, 7 and 11) and, since the same input, the two largest became crazy running from houses to others, investigating, looking for sites... and entering the small their increments and leaving homes adapted to its size... It has been a while very nice for the elderly, and magic for children.

  • Honestly nothing extraordinary, find themselves played various monuments of Portugal on a smaller scale, only worth it if you have kids, or else you prefer more.

  • First could have a proper car park and avoid the anxiety of visitors who park their cars on the street with Gypsies asking for coins to "keep" the car. The entrance is a little expensive for a family with two children since it is directed primarily to children and a family with 2 children pay €25 is expensive. There are now conditions and cleanliness in toilets that were all dirty it is incomprehensible for the price they charge this happens and there is only one toilet unit. Moreover the kids liked it because it's different but it is regrettable not to have staff spread through the Park to inform about the historical significance of what is presented there. Missing Air Force fighter and the globe what I find unacceptable because they are symbols of the Portugal dos Pequenitos that marked generations and our children now can not enjoy. It's more important the CR7 ... Anyway! They could have a catering unit working with menus suited to children. Otherwise I liked the costume Museum but the finishes of the dolls could be better. I liked the overall visit because my son hadn't met however could be more like the space is big and do something with a different level.

  • An awesome place to visit with children of all ages. We went with a group of adults (9.95€ each) with 1 toddler. There are many people there with little kids so be sure to keep an eye on yours because in a split second they can easily disappear among the small houses and castles. It was a really cute place, many miniature houses and churches where children can go in and bigger versions (but still mini) for adults and children to see a little bit of Portugal's history. All in all it was a wonderful experience and as a foreigner I had a lot of fun! Would recommend to visit at least once!
  • Not bad but not really great. If you're go have a look. Poor collection, but the miniature models are nice.
  • I thought this was such a let down. Took us forever to get tickets, once in we were disappointment to see that nothing had descriptions, nothing was interesting, and nothing was cultural. They selected very weird, off the beaten path countries to represent. I've been to these small city like places in other countries and always loved them. I would not recommend this to anyone. Even with children.
  • If it was my daughter reviewing this would get 4.5 stars but for the older people in the group not so much. A blatant and poorly executed celebration of empire with no attempt at highlighting or addressing the wrongs of the past, which improved slightly when focusing on Portuguese culture and traditions. Also they have a couple of trains running around the park that kids will love.
  • A fun couple of hours for younger children and reasonably inexpensive for what is offered. A family ticket of 2 adults and 2 children will cost €22. Whilst young children will find the many minuture houses entertaining to run around, older children and teenagers will likely find the park quite boring. The educational element of the park is surprisingly quite limited and you'll be pushed to squeeze 3 hours of enjoyment out of the this small theme park.

Where to stay in Coimbra

Indulge in the medieval splendor of Coimbra by booking a hotel in the city's historical hilltop and hillside central area, which is home to the majority of its hotels and guesthouses. By staying right in the middle of the Old Town, you'll have medieval monasteries, Renaissance homes, and Baroque halls right at your doorstep. You'll also be within walking distance of the city's famed university complex. Alternatively, try staying in one of the center's youth hostels, which offer shared rooms, lockers, breakfast, and a comfortable bed at a fraction of the cost of an upscale hotel. These accommodations also give you a good base from which you can experience the city's student-fueled nightlife. To get away from the mainstream tourist center a bit, opt for a hotel or bed and breakfast in the quieter residential neighborhoods east of the university.
