Portugal dos Pequenitos, Coimbra

4.0
#1 of 15 in Historic Sites in Coimbra
Historic Site Tourist Spot
At Portugal dos Pequenitos, explore a miniature world displaying scaled-down versions of some of Portugal's most important monuments and buildings. The attraction was built in 1940 in honor of the nation's people, history, and cultural influence. While best suited for children, who will enjoy interacting with the exhibits and feeling large in this small world, adults will also find the historical value of the displays interesting. View a copy of the famous window from the Convento de Cristo in the historic city of Tomar, various monuments from the capital of Lisbon, and traditional houses. Check out the costume museum which includes over 300 pieces of miniature clothing, the naval museum full of tiny ships, and the furniture museum with small pieces handcrafted from exotic woods. Also, stop by the different pavilions dedicated to the former Portuguese colonies. The park lacks covered areas, so keep this in mind on hot days. • Cute little theme park, bit overpriced at 10 euros pp. I wouldn't have made a visit but there was little else to do in town. The miniature village was cute though the bit at the entrance was off-putting. It is intended as a museum but it's poorly made with little/no signage.
  • Fun fun fun, only if you are prepared to let the inner child out. We got combined tickets with the university tour. So only paid around 2€ for entry. Definitely a park for kids but gained some insight into Portuguese architecture.
  • Nice sight to view but heavily over-prized. Better spend your day in the rest of the city which is free ;-)
  • A nice place to leave the kids play arround. They Love this place.
  • Very nice to know a bit more about Portugal's architecture and history in a fun way. Great for kids but adults can also spend an enjoyable time here.

Where to stay in Coimbra

Indulge in the medieval splendor of Coimbra by booking a hotel in the city's historical hilltop and hillside central area, which is home to the majority of its hotels and guesthouses. By staying right in the middle of the Old Town, you'll have medieval monasteries, Renaissance homes, and Baroque halls right at your doorstep. You'll also be within walking distance of the city's famed university complex. Alternatively, try staying in one of the center's youth hostels, which offer shared rooms, lockers, breakfast, and a comfortable bed at a fraction of the cost of an upscale hotel. These accommodations also give you a good base from which you can experience the city's student-fueled nightlife. To get away from the mainstream tourist center a bit, opt for a hotel or bed and breakfast in the quieter residential neighborhoods east of the university.
