  • It's impressive Museum! You feel the weight of history and knowledge amassed over the years, not to say centuries: we stayed speechless in front of these magnificent ancestral scientific objects. Unfortunately, the explanations are rare and many / too - many experiments have failed. It's a shame, but it's still a museum to do.

  • The first part covering chemistry/Atomic physics is very entertaining even for professionals. Especially the wave and light demonstrations are awesome. The natural history part of the exhibition lacks structure.
  • An interactive museum with a broad coverage of the light-matter theme. However, some exhibits were not functional, while others could benefit from more detailed explanation.
  • This is a Nice little museum in the university of Coimbra. It is a bit small but also has some halls in the building across the street. Most of the experiments have English descriptions. In the other building its mostly a natural history museum with stuffed animals and physics organs.
  • Fantastic place where science and history of Portugal and the world can be seen together!
  • Nice big space near the university campus. We had fresh and tasty salads for lunch. Lots of students and like around. Good service.

Where to stay in Coimbra

Indulge in the medieval splendor of Coimbra by booking a hotel in the city's historical hilltop and hillside central area, which is home to the majority of its hotels and guesthouses. By staying right in the middle of the Old Town, you'll have medieval monasteries, Renaissance homes, and Baroque halls right at your doorstep. You'll also be within walking distance of the city's famed university complex. Alternatively, try staying in one of the center's youth hostels, which offer shared rooms, lockers, breakfast, and a comfortable bed at a fraction of the cost of an upscale hotel. These accommodations also give you a good base from which you can experience the city's student-fueled nightlife. To get away from the mainstream tourist center a bit, opt for a hotel or bed and breakfast in the quieter residential neighborhoods east of the university.
