  • Near the large dune Oitavos there is this small Fort MacPherson square with a few cannons erected in mid-17th century to defend the mouth of the Tagus River as an inscription above the door. Well integrated into the surrounding environment. There is also a visitor centre with uniforms and cards.

  • Place to see some more of the History of Portugal. It was built to supplement the Tagus, the coasts of Cascais.

  • Nice small fort on the beach. Visit paying the small museum inside (€ 3 for adults) with an interesting set of photos of the coastline from the sky in the 1960s and today. It measures well the growing urbanization of the region. Nice sea view from the ramparts. Not essential but you can stop from walk.

  • Cost a lot for nothing. No English explanations, only 3 small rooms about some historical stuff with Fotos of the fort. Waste of time and money. Only go There if you really really really into something like that. Otherwise avoid!
  • It was really good apart from the miserable battleaxe who works there, telling our kids off for their rather loud battle re-enactments with the cannons. This might have been justified if anyone else was there.. at all.
  • Lovely walking
  • One day, it's almost closed! To tell the truth, there's nothing special about appearances! There's nothing around! In Cascais to Sintra on the half road, by the sea, sunset in this watching the sunset is OK! 😎

  • Strong finished in 1683, was done to save the entries in the Tagus River, beautiful and well maintained.

Where to stay in Cascais

The seaside resort town of Cascais, one of Lisbon's wealthiest suburbs, offers solid options for both enjoying the sun and surf and getting away from the bustle of the capital. By staying right near the beach, you'll be within easy walking distance of both the soft sand and the restaurants and bars of the town center. Most of the bigger hotels along the waterfront and near the marina provide balconies and sweeping views over the ocean as well. However, you can also check into a smaller guesthouse for a lower bill and equally good location in the center of town. Grabbing a room at one of the guesthouses or hotels in nearby Estoril offers a similar beachfront experience not far from Cascais itself, plus this location offers more in terms of choice.
