  • We walked into the fort but had to find our own way around. It is a magnificient building but inside has been turned into an upmarket hotel so it has lost its charisma.  more »

  • Fort of São Jorge De Oitavos Was raised in the context of Portuguese restoration of independence war to complement the defence of the coast from the Tagus River under the direction of Don Antonio Luis de Menezes, 1st Marquis of Marialva was notably under the small garrison, with the function of preventing landing on the coast between Guincho Beach and the beach of the Guide while Epigraphic inscription on the gate of arms specify start dates and completion respectively as 4 may 1642 and 1648 scholars understand that a more accurate timeline would be to start in 1641 and 1643 I've Crossed fires with the Forte de Nossa Senhora da Guia and the Forte de São Brás de Sanxete come see this Strong round of 16 is pretty much for a hiking and bring a lancho or make a snack or go eat at a restaurant are always well from Forte De São Jorge De Oitavos Road Cascais 2750-642 Guincho Portugal

  • It was really good apart from the miserable battleaxe who works there, telling our kids off for their rather loud battle re-enactments with the cannons. This might have been justified if anyone else was there.. at all.
  • Lovely walking
  • Strong finished in 1683, was done to save the entries in the Tagus River, beautiful and well maintained.

Where to stay in Cascais

The seaside resort town of Cascais, one of Lisbon's wealthiest suburbs, offers solid options for both enjoying the sun and surf and getting away from the bustle of the capital. By staying right near the beach, you'll be within easy walking distance of both the soft sand and the restaurants and bars of the town center. Most of the bigger hotels along the waterfront and near the marina provide balconies and sweeping views over the ocean as well. However, you can also check into a smaller guesthouse for a lower bill and equally good location in the center of town. Grabbing a room at one of the guesthouses or hotels in nearby Estoril offers a similar beachfront experience not far from Cascais itself, plus this location offers more in terms of choice.
