Cascais Historic Center, Cascais

4.5
Cascais Historic Center represents the old center of a historic coastal city that was once a small fishing village. While the foundation of Cascais dates to the 12th century, it did not become a desirable resort location until the 19th or 20th centuries, when royalty began to frequent the village. Now it is a popular site for beach-goers and tourists who are interested in Portuguese history. Just a train ride away from Lisbon, this site features tiny, shop-lined side streets; cobblestone roads; several parks; and local bars and restaurants. While you're here, visit the area's art and sea museum, as well as the ruins of the Castle of Cascais. • Good place to spend a few days. Good beaches, good people, good overview destination. I recommend not to go to the PORTO DI MARE, a few rude, or at least one of the waitresses... Rude and rude...

  • During your stay in Lisbon we visited this town. Small, but nice. Typical seaside town is neat and tidy. To see

  • I did not expect to find such a beautiful country. Is 30/40 minutes by train from Lisbon, the round trip ticket costs 5 euros, with departures every 30 minutes. For those who want to make a day of the sea without moving too far from Lisbon and not renting the car is perfect. Really full of bars, restaurants, shops.

Where to stay in Cascais

The seaside resort town of Cascais, one of Lisbon's wealthiest suburbs, offers solid options for both enjoying the sun and surf and getting away from the bustle of the capital. By staying right near the beach, you'll be within easy walking distance of both the soft sand and the restaurants and bars of the town center. Most of the bigger hotels along the waterfront and near the marina provide balconies and sweeping views over the ocean as well. However, you can also check into a smaller guesthouse for a lower bill and equally good location in the center of town. Grabbing a room at one of the guesthouses or hotels in nearby Estoril offers a similar beachfront experience not far from Cascais itself, plus this location offers more in terms of choice.
