Praia do Carvalho, Carvoeiro
(4.7/5 based on 190+ reviews on the web)
Sandstone cliffs surround the isolated beach of Praia do Carvalho completely. To reach its golden sands and turquoise waters, you must descend a steep set of stairs cut from the cliff face on one side, or pass through a tunnel on the other. Small boats offer to take you on a tour of the sea caves and water-eroded recesses that riddle the rocky coastline. The cliffs shelter the beach from big waves, making it a great place for a swim or a paddle. Bring drinks and snacks, as the site lacks a permanent shop or kiosk. • We came across this little beach by accident really. We had tried to go to Benigil beach and Pria de Marhina but couldn't get parked anywhere so ended up here ! You have to access the beach by walking...  more »
  • The Praia do Carvalho is one of the most beautiful representatives of the rocky beaches. But unfortunately not for the claustrophobic. Access is via a tunnel carved into the rock with a narrow staircase and high levels. Since it is one a little queasy.

  • The excavated ground access is the great thing this beach in landscape, remember the Navy, only smaller and less crowded.

  • Secluded small beach with an interesting entrance via a carved cave though the rock. There's also a small sinkhole entrance down from the cliff path too if you look hard. Not a busy beach but it's secluded.
  • Beautiful tiny beach. Stairs cut into the stone and a swimmable cave (it was too cold when I went in early June though). Nice and hidden, not crowded. Also the option for a topless sunbathe ;)
  • Lovely beach, not too crowded - great waters!
  • A really special secluded space, but with special locations comes a large amount of tourists/people
  • Fantastic beach, golden sands, clear water, and not too many tourists.
