Algar Seco, Carvoeiro

(4.7/5 based on 600+ reviews on the web)
Explore a piece of geological history at Algar Seco, a sizeable rock formation with tunnels, arches, and rugged cliffs carved out by millennia of wind and waves. You'll find that the formation lies just a short jaunt from the main square in Carvoeiro. Wander among the winding paths and stairways cut directly into the rock, passing across rugged sections right along the water's edge. You'll be treated to views of the ocean from many areas of the formation, as well as the other parts of the cliffs curling out into the sea. Take a break if you want on one of the benches at viewing platforms along the way. By using our Carvoeiro trip builder, you can arrange your visit to Algar Seco and other attractions in Carvoeiro.

  • We visited Algar Seco as part of a tour by Rotatur, and were amazed by the location and the accessibility to the scenic cliffs overlooking the ocean. Great photo location.  more »
  • A coastal neighborhood, really, with some amenities. The cliffs, the views, and the boardwalk are the real story. Plus there are stairs, some modern wood, some timeless ones chiseled into the limeston...  more »
  • A maze of stairs dug into the rocks: unexpected and fun. This allowed us to get closer to the ocean.

  • A beautiful spot that I've been coming to for over 20 years! It's great to see it's still around and popular. Wandering stone the cliff deus definitely the reason I come here-fantastic views of the coast.
  • Fun and friendly little place. We rolled up and ordered 10 pina colada cocktails, and the barman was very obliging
  • Lovely place with beautiful Cliffs. The small Grotto has nice blue water and there is a traditional Portugese Bar in between the natural sculptures.
  • Great to walk around and see the amazing caves and rock formations.
  • I thoroughly recommend this place.! My son and I had a great meal here and the staff were fantastic and friendly. Defo 5 stars.
