Cabo Girao, Camara De Lobos

#1 of 13 in Things to do in Camara De Lobos
Stop at scenic lookout point Cabo Girao, which is 589 m (1,932 ft) above sea level, before going on a hike. This large sea cliff is popular among tourists for its views of the southern coast of Madeira Island, including the capital city of Madeira. Step onto the glass-floored observation platform, which was added to the site in 2012, for a better vantage point. You'll find hiking trails nearby. Choose to start, finish, or center your holiday on a trip to Cabo Girao by using our Camara De Lobos road trip planning site .

  • One is fascinated and shocked at the same time, you need to be overcome on the glass plate, but it's so cool to be there and to look down through the glass. You get goose bumps correctly, so I was excited. Can it advise everybody just to do it. Gorgeous...

  • Holy shxx - this place is amazing, spectacular and scary at the same time (especially when you walk on the glass part of balcony). The view you get from the Cabo Girao is stunning (as long as the weather is good). What amazes me over and over again is the fact that you don't have to pay money or buy a ticket to get there. It's free - yes, free! We went there several times and enjoyed every moment we spent up there. Every now and then, the balcony gets a bit packed (especially when a bus full of tourists just stopped...) but then there are moments when there's hardly anyone up there. Definitely a MUST-SEE on Madeira island!
  • If you're like me and you are ok with heights, but not greatbe brave and step out. When you first step onto the glass floor its a bit disconcerting, but push your self to do it , the pay off is fantastic. dont rush yourself and dont take out the camera straight away take a bit of time to get used to it. Its remarkable how quickly you do get used to it . In actual fact i was more concerned about the steel grated sections drop your phone etc. and if it falls between grate you will be waiting a while before it smashes. In the immortal words of Mrs Doyle " Go on, go on, go on, go on, go on" You wont regret it
  • This cliff, just west of Funchal, is 580 m high and really worth a visit. It's got a short skywalk - not for anyone with a fear of heights! Crowded until around 3 pm, after which the tourist coaches leave so you have the place pretty much to yourself. Great light and views during the evening hours.
  • Beautiful place to visit if you love heights. Amazing views from the sky walk.
  • Definately one of the best spots in Madeira. I recommend going to Camara de Lobos on foot from Cabo Girão because a route leads between traditional houses.
