Castle of Braganza, Braganca

4.6
#1 of 15 in Things to do in Braganca
Built in 1409 and classified as a national monument, Castle of Braganza represents an outstanding example of medieval architecture. Despite its age, the fortification has withstood elements surprisingly well. Explore the citadel and Old Town, including the church of Santa Maria and the Domus Municipalis. The entire attraction is made up of 15 towers and three gateways. Look for medieval features like the battlements, the railed windows, and the stone carved arms of the Royal House of Avis. Those interested can stop by the on-site military museum. • Historical conditioning, interesting panoramic view. If there is just a Knight Festival, something stressful hustle and bustle.

  • Funny car circular within the Castle. Allows a beautiful view over the city of Bragança and the snow-capped mountains of the Spanish side. Worth the visit

  • The Castle of Bragança is well known for its emblematic main tower and preserved surroundings. It’s an ideal place for a stroll or to sightseeing. There are some restaurants inside the medieval wall as well as some bars. If you are in Bragança you must visit this place. You can go by car and leave it inside although some streets are narrow. Best idea is to leave the car outside and explore by foot :)
  • An ancient castle in the centre of town. Definitely worth a visit although it is somewhat empty inside, certainly not like a typical French chateau. Admission is €3 for adults a free for young children. Museum is interesting but information is only provided in Portuguese. Great views overlooking the town but access to the top may prove difficult for some. Access to the castle is via a very steep hill so it may be easier to leave your vehicle at the bottom and walk!
  • Well preserved and still bearing the ancient feel of legend and mythology
  • Beautiful and in good condition. Worth a visit!
  • Great view.
