Elevador do Bom Jesus do Monte, Braga

4.4
Take a unique trip with Elevador do Bom Jesus do Monte, a funicular connecting Uptown Braga to a shrine and statue of Saint Longinus. Although a set of stairs--the Stairs of Bom Jesus--runs parallel to the track, riding the funicular feels like stepping back in time to 1882, when it was built. Its unique system of water counterbalancing involves loading water into the car at the top of the hill, weighing it down enough to descend again. At the bottom, the car is drained so it is light enough to ascend. By using our Braga trip builder , you can arrange your visit to Elevador do Bom Jesus do Monte and other attractions in Braga.

  • It serves to go up to the temple and if you don't want to stick a good kicked, it is recommended to take it. Children are free, although I recommend that if you are with children will occupy seats which are more separated from the outputs, since there is no protection, and in some sections may have a drop of about fifteen meters.

  • Small micheline allowing you to go to the foot of the site to the top. €2 per person return. In itself, that is not of particular interest but it has with the visit of the bom jesus.

  • Both the elevator (funicular) and specially the park are unmissable experiences if you're nearby Braga or visiting the north of Portugal. From the top you can see what is surely some of the best sunsets of the whole country.

Where to stay in Braga

Make the most of thousands of years worth of history in Braga by staying in a hotel in the city's celebrated town core. An array of mid-range hotels are wedged in among its winding streets and secluded squares; many of these feature decent rates and easy walking access to nearly all of Braga's popular sights. You can also opt for an apartment rental or guesthouse, most of which are offered by local residents to visitors, to get a similar old-town experience with a bit more privacy and independence. For some peace and quiet away from the tourist crowds, reserve a spot at the nearby monastery.
