Bom Jesus do Monte, Braga
(4.7/5 based on 1,900+ reviews on the web)
Climb a long monumental stairway to reach Bom Jesus do Monte, a sanctuary and a Catholic place of pilgrimage, nestled on a hilltop above the city. Completed in 1811, the church features ornaments and decoration influenced by styles of different monuments in Portugal and colonial Brazil. The zigzag-shaped stairs contain Baroque-style dark granite and white plaster, whereas the rest of the site features neoclassical elements, sculptures, fountains, and ornamental gardens. You can also visit several chapels, which melt into the greenery of the place. Don't miss the chance to snap some photos of the area below from one of the panoramic overlooks. • A place of reference in the city of Braga. Go to Braga and not to ascend to the bom Jesus do Monte is like going to Rome and not seeing the Pope. Ample space and possibility to have a picnic with your family.

  • Go to Braga and not to go to the Bom Jesus is like going to Rome and not seeing the Pope. In addition to the fantastic views of the city, is a good place to work out. After climbing the stairs all, we're ready for a meal without feeling "guilt".

  • Amazing site! Must visit, well worth the climb to get up! If you arrive by car, there is a parking available, which will add another 100 stairs to your walk!
  • Beautiful religious site. Great view from the top. The place still use the antic water tank cable cars. Peaceful small lake behind the church, and great staircase challenge you to walk up. You can get there by bus.
  • I really love this beautiful church, the overall design is special and amazing. Lovely sunset view.
  • Beautiful mountain top religious site. If you walk to the top it's 520 steps, there is also a water elevator ride available or car parking along the way. 0.50€ fee to use the restrooms 🙂
  • Linda, com bela vista sobre Braga
