Bom Jesus do Monte, Braga

(4.7/5 based on 2,000+ reviews on the web)
Climb a long monumental stairway to reach Bom Jesus do Monte, a sanctuary and a Catholic place of pilgrimage, nestled on a hilltop above the city. Completed in 1811, the church features ornaments and decoration influenced by styles of different monuments in Portugal and colonial Brazil. The zigzag-shaped stairs contain Baroque-style dark granite and white plaster, whereas the rest of the site features neoclassical elements, sculptures, fountains, and ornamental gardens. You can also visit several chapels, which melt into the greenery of the place. Don't miss the chance to snap some photos of the area below from one of the panoramic overlooks. • A spectacular place, the temple and the surrounding area, place to go with kids, we had bad luck and the funicular water was broken, a penalty. But anyway we liked a lot.

  • Beautiful religious site. Great view from the top. The place still use the antic water tank cable cars. Peaceful small lake behind the church, and great staircase challenge you to walk up. You can get there by bus.
  • I really love this beautiful church, the overall design is special and amazing. Lovely sunset view.
