  • I found the lower star reviews on here quite amusing, but must say from my experience: I just loved the garden and could have spend hours! I came shortly before 6 and it closed at 7, the opening hours differ according to the time of year and it seems google cannot portray that, so better check the garden's official page! If you are into an almost fairy tale setting of a botanical garden, where some areas are off limits, abandoned cacti grow huge and out of their former, now desolate green houses, former doors and portals are only met by an array of plants behind them and an overall serenity in which you are surrounded by beautiful peacocks, fearless geese and jumpy chicken, THIS is your garden! It has really beautiful architectual arrangements and great palm trees as well. Highly recommended, so glad I did not miss it because of the 'run down' argumentation. So charmingly extraordinary!
  • It could be a bit more.. Everything. The garden is not as well preserved as it could be. You'll pay a 2€ entrance, and you'll be able to see everything in the park. But soon you'll find out there's not a lot to see. The lakes are green, the grass brown, some dead palm trees. There's no place where you can get a water bottle or any food/drink of any kind. So, as far you finish the tour (which will take 30min if you try to make it worth) there's nothing more to do. Unless you want to chill with ducks. :) It's a shame that a botanical garden right in the middle of the city suffer such lack of attention. It could be more.
  • To call it "a bit run down" is very generous. This garden has, in fact, mostly gone wild. A map is very helpfully provided at the entrance, where you can locate the greenhouse (in ruins), the shop (long ago abandoned to the jungle) & many other attractions that you will have the pleasure of discovering under a thick layer of weed and ivy. Local fauna includes chicken, peacocks, red squirrels and resting gardeners. Totally worth the 2€ charge, if only to escape the herds of tourists queuing for a custard pie.
  • Fantastic place! Loved every minute there. Palm trees, coffee bushes, old greenhouses, ducks and chickens, bamboo and grass... And strange palace buildings and pretty azulejos with birds... You can lay on a grass and do wathever you want. Silence and almost nobody there. Paradise for 2 euros.
  • Great place to relax if you get fed up with the hustle under bustle of the city. Very well maintained and animals can roam free throughout the Gardens. Come here and you will have a great time.
