We tested a homemade pizza of cod and a salad of tomatoes that were delicious. In Rome I had tried a pizza so exquisite and at the same time. With less heat we would have enjoyed more, but without a doubt, Monsanto is one of the essential places of Portugal!

Located on the slopes quite steep of a large hill, the village of Monsanto is a fascinating site, with a quiet and authentic environment where we feel transported back in time. Monsanto is one of the historical villages of Portugal and that which is distinguished as being the "most Portuguese of Portugal". With traces of human presence from the Paleolithic era, Monsanto was donated by d. Afonso Henriques to the Knights Templar after your conquest to the Moors in 1165. The village of Monsanto is a beautiful place. Don't miss the Church Cannons Square Belvedere Castle Cave on the way to the Castle, hidden in one of the streets of the village, lies a cave excavated on a large rock. In your interior is still possible to see some traces of human occupation. It's a very small space but which have interest from the historical point of view.
Not much to do but amazing views and great to walk around. Might be difficult to find parking. Best to spend the night and wake up early to take it all in.
A must visit...
Beautiful and picturesque place of medieval with several restaurants and bars as well as shops to buy gifts. In spring is a medieval feast in which the village is decorated to the effect and simulates life as before. It has a castle that is highly recommended to visit, although access is somewhat steep. Admission is free and the spectacular views from the top of its battlements and walls, which you can pass freely. By its steep streets it goes looking at buildings and admiring landscapes contemplated from almost any corner. There are several available viewpoints and many corners to photograph. highly recommended visit.
Monsanto was considered the most Portuguese village of Portugal. The singer Zeca Afonso and writer Fernando Namora had House in Monsanto. The Museum is in the recovery phase.
What more beautiful people! It is spectacular. You should visit it. It is a must if you're in the area. In the Castle, incredible views. Many slopes and cobbled streets (not recommended or wheelchair no baby carts)
