  • At the entrance, was later explained the volcanic phenomenon, by a receptionist very friendly and attentive. The gruta do natal is a lava tube composed of two parts, one accessible to all people and the second just recommended to people with "good" mobility-as it is a "way" more meandering, which requires more dexterity, in that in the end one has to download to go through more estreitecido tube. That is, for example, an elderly person who has difficulty in walking on level ground is not advised this second part. It is a pleasant visit, very beautiful, interesting, worth!

  • The Gruta natal is a very rich lava tunnel where you will find a wide variety of volcanic phenomena (pahoehoe, aa, stalagmites, stalactites... lava). The problem is that if you're not with a minimum of knowledge you may miss out on a lot of these wonders. There are very few explanations as there are no guided tours. That's too bad. Damage also too powerful artificial lights that blinded and especially could ultimately transform the cave (the vegetation already begins to develop at the foot of each spot!).

  • Only open in the afternoon has the advantage of being able to be visited individually without the constraint of time and the hassle of guided as to Grutas das Torres of Pico. For the price of 6 € agrees the combined ticket (€ 9) with the volcanic vent of Algar caves about 10 km away. At the entrance is given a map and a precious helmet (a bare head against a sharp lava ledge craniata, inevitable in some passages is not pleasant!). The route runs for about 200 meters in two directions, particularly the second stretch is not very easy (but we did it ourselves with our 70 years!). It's absolutely fascinating, you walk into a tunnel of 3 meters (which in a short passage is reduced to just over a meter) out of a lava flow that looks like solidified yesterday. Needless to say, the need to wear sturdy sole shoes and wear a sweater. Good lighting that does not indulge in spectacular effects (from which many caves are ruined) and which allows to make great photographs.

  • Stunning volcanic cave. A must-see in Terceira. Don't miss the hike to the nearby "mistérios".
  • Great visit to a cave that passes underneath the lake
  • Awesome spot
  • Not as good as algar do carvao. But still worth it. It is a bit rough, you have to wear an helmet (provided), and there are some lower passages where you almost have to get on your knees. It's basically an old lava tunel where you can see different types of lava formations.
  • very cold &wet about 100 ft down ,dark ,but nice,& wonderfull ,to see nature ,
