Arrifana Beach, Aljezur

Must see · Beach · Nature / Park
Backed by dramatic cliffs rising over the golden sands, Arrifana Beach makes an intimate-yet-breathtaking getaway. The cliffs provide some protection from the winds, so waves stay small and manageable. For this reason, the Blue Flag beach is particularly popular with surfers and body surfers. Look up and spot Castle Arrifana, the 12th-century ruins thought to be the one-time residence of a prince. Look for ruins from several mosques nearby, too. Steps provide access to the beach from the village, where you can go for food and accommodation. Note that the steps are somewhat steep. You'll find restrooms, showers, and lifeguards on site. • Beautiful large and chill beach, lots of surfers, not very big waves, good for a whole day at the beach  more »
  • Amazing beach, amazing surf, this is one of the best surf points in Portugal and a kind of hidden gem.  more »
  • This beach is something we have not seen before. Is this possible...so impressive. We were wordless. The nature was unbelivable. Sun was shining and it was hot at least when we walked down the beach.....  more »

  • Another beach with spectacular views. Access is down a windy corkscrew road with limited parking. We parked at the top and walked down. Gently sloping beach makes is relatively safe but waves are quite big here. It is very popular with surfers.
  • Amazing well known beach. Popular spot for surfing but way too busy in summer. It gets very often small waves and it is very good for beginners, however sometimes the beach break works nicely and there are nice left and rights waves. Impressive cliff and nice restaurants around. A spot to sleep near by can be found easy and when Kangaroo point is working... the surf in on fire here. Love it.
  • I imagine this beach is great for surfers BC by the time we arrived at 11:30 the sea was full of them. The scenery was beautiful but we decided to leave for a quieter beach more suited to swimming further up the coast.
  • Wow! Beautiful place with amazing landscapes! Atmosphere was relaxed and good place to learn surfing. There is also good options of food and drinks.
  • .A beautiful beach. Access is difficult with a long walk down hill. There is a shuttle bus bringing you back up, €1 per person. It can carry your surfboard. You can rent surf boards on the brace and there is a coffee shop. You can buy take away food at the coffee shop if you don't want a more expensive sit down lunch. It is worth a visit as the beach is spectacular.
