Gubalowka, Zakopane

4.0
#1 of 46 in Winter Sports in Poland
You can spot Gubalowka from a distance because of the Zakopane-Gubałówka transmitter on top, but what the mountain is really known for is the views of Zakopane and the Tatras mountain range. The valley beneath the mountain teems with restaurants and shops, and it serves as the starting point of many hiking trails that lead up to the summit and through the valley. Ride the funicular that takes you from the valley to a viewpoint on the mountain. • Enter queue on Gubałówka Hill turned out to be the worst idea to departure ... we might as well take a tram ride around the city, no fun. We took advantage of the queue just because each of us thought that this is an excerpt. A much better idea would be to enter with the szymaszkowa. Tickets for the queue are prohibitive, and the crowd in the middle of the unimaginable. On top of the one big market.

  • Pay 17 Zl to take the cable train to the top, having endured the lines of stalls selling tat as you approach the base station, and arrive at the top to find - around 2km of stalls selling more tat. So...  more »
  • Gubalowka for beginners and small children. This is not a great attraction for people walking in the mountains but you can see. The entrance is not long, and older people or children for activities may enter or exit the tram/queue. On top of the coffee shops, stalls and a lot of terrain to a mild walk. At the end of the exit more interesting version of the queue.

Where to stay in Zakopane

Despite its reputation as one of Poland's most popular winter resorts, Zakopane has no shortage of affordable lodgings. Although most hotels hike their prices during the winter holidays, the town's guesthouses or self-catering apartments provide plenty of economical sleeping options. Many locals rent simply furnished rooms in private houses, providing another low-cost alternative for travelers with a limited budget. If you arrive without a reservation, look for rental signs posted outside private homes, or check with the city's main tourist office.
