Gubalowka, Zakopane

3.5
#1 of 24 in Winter Sports in Poland
Mountain Ski Area
You can spot Gubalowka from a distance because of the Zakopane-Gubałówka transmitter on top, but what the mountain is really known for is the views of Zakopane and the Tatras mountain range. The valley beneath the mountain teems with restaurants and shops, and it serves as the starting point of many hiking trails that lead up to the summit and through the valley. Ride the funicular that takes you from the valley to a viewpoint on the mountain. Use our Zakopane family vacation planner to visit Gubalowka on your trip to Zakopane, and learn what else travelers and our writers recommend seeing nearby.

Where to stay in Zakopane

Despite its reputation as one of Poland's most popular winter resorts, Zakopane has no shortage of affordable lodgings. Although most hotels hike their prices during the winter holidays, the town's guesthouses or self-catering apartments provide plenty of economical sleeping options. Many locals rent simply furnished rooms in private houses, providing another low-cost alternative for travelers with a limited budget. If you arrive without a reservation, look for rental signs posted outside private homes, or check with the city's main tourist office.

  • Easy to get to and being there in May no big line ups. Price very resnable with lots of little shops once you get to the top.  more »
  • Quick ride up and great views, but do not get sucked into all the tourist traps selling crappy merchandise and FAKE Osycpek cheese!  more »
  • Ride on funicular was nice, but commercialism gone mad at the top. If you like shopping for 'souvenirs' maybe its great, but the string of stalls/arcades/bars/restaurants at the top are not for those ...  more »
