#25 of 565 in Things to do in Warsaw
Warsaw University Library is known for its main facade covered with large blocks of classical texts, as well as its roof garden--one of the largest in Europe. Notice a large open book with the inscription "hinc omnia" at the entrance. The university motto means "from here--all." The front lobby area and the main section are connected by a small passage covered by a glass roof. Visit the botanical garden on the roof, filled with bridges, streams, pathways, sculptures, and a fish pond. From the deck you can get great views of the city and the river below. The library also offers guided tours. A visit to Warsaw University Library represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Warsaw day trip app to plot your vacation.

  • The new library of Warsaw University is covered all sides in green greenery. The solar panels that provide the electricity to the building are being shed from the roof garden to the garden on the street level. They are running on water gutters that plunge into a stream of water that ducks are slipping on.

  • The roof of the university library is not only walkable, but also has an impressively beautiful garden or park. The sight and the many wonderful corners are not to be missed. No admission is required.

  • It is just amazing. Garden on the roof is very energetic. Nice to visit when you are in Warsaw as tourist. The place is free.
  • The library is very good for studying, lots of space, the staff is very helpful and nice, but a little bit cold. Despite this, I am pleased that in Warsaw University has a great place to study even during the weekend. However, I am very unhappy with the canteen (foot court) which is located inside the building where the library itself. Opposite of canteen there is a Costa coffee where you can buy branded coffee, croissants, and many other delicious things and it is obvious that you are now allowed to eat there your homemade food. BUT I do not understand why the public canteen which is located next to the library and Costa coffee has the same rule of not bringing own food. This is not even a brand-famous canteen or cafeteria, but only food place where everyone can go and eat. For example, in other universities, there is no such rule that you cannot bring own meal because I would like to repeat it is just only Warsaw University canteen not a cafe such as Starbucks or Costa coffee where it is logically prohibited. I witnessed a student girl eating her own food in this canteen near the Warsaw library, and her friend ordered food in the canteen and one waitress who apparently was a typical worker with Ukrainian accent asked her to stop eating there. I was sad because of student cause she was eating and not doing anything. So my point is that some student just does not have a chance to buy food even in the canteen, and what was the point of prohibiting it to a student? My solution would be that a waitress could say to at least finish her meal and informed her about not eating own food there anymore..Eleonora,exchance student from Australia
  • Might be a nice garden, but we were not allowed to enter, although there were other people inside already and we did nothing wrong besides being tourists. Absolutely rude.

  • Amazing building and roof top garden for views of the city skyline
