Categories: Civic Centers, Historic Sites, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.4/5 based on 2,400+ reviews on the web
Established in the late 13th century around the time the city itself was founded, Old Town Market Square served as the commercial and cultural heart of Warsaw for several centuries. The large public space hosted regular fairs and occasional executions. One of the city's great survivors, the square was bombed in 1939 and destroyed in 1944 after the Warsaw Uprising. The houses surrounding the square, painstakingly restored in the years following World War II, blend Renaissance and Baroque architectural styles. The square also features the city's main historical museum and is a natural starting or ending point for your tour of the city. Put Old Town Market Square into our Warsaw holiday planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.
