Old Town, Warsaw

3.8
Take in Old Town, the oldest part of the city, which testifies to its rise from the ashes of war. Considered one of the country's main architectural treasures, this central district is also a World Heritage Site. The area was meticulously rebuilt after the massive destruction of World War II. During the reconstruction, workers sifted through rubble to save decorative elements and bricks from historic buildings, reusing the pieces in their original places whenever possible. A great place to start your tour of Warsaw, the central square features cafes, shops, and restaurants. Wander the cobblestone streets and admire the medieval architecture. • If you know your history you will know that Warsaw was almost burned to the ground in the end of WW2. The old town is a reconstruction but beautifully made and definitely worth the visit.  more »
  • It is a unique place where you can see how completely 100% destroyed architecture you can effort all over the country rebuild and to show future generations.

  • We stayed at 38/38A Piwna Street for 4 days in march 2017. We really like the apartment which is a normal 1- bedroom apartment with a large living-room and fully- equipped kitchen. The hall and apartment is extremely neat and clean. It is an old apartment with a little sewer smell from the drain in the bathroom and the windows are two single-layered glass which means it is very noisy when drunk people party in the streets. There is also a loud noise every time the tram goes near-by. The area in the old town is very cozy and you her the worlds best pizza in the near-by restaurant Ciao Napoli.

Where to stay in Warsaw

Many centrally located hotels in Warsaw cater mostly to business travelers, which makes them much too expensive for backpackers and other visitors on a limited budget. Although hostels may seem like the only affordable option at the height of the season, you can find less expensive lodgings in mid-range hotels on the outskirts of town. Alternatively, time your visit for the weekend, when many hotels near the city center slash their prices and offer special deals for early booking.
