Muzeum Fryderyka Chopina, Warsaw

3.5
#6 of 37 in Museums in Warsaw
Specialty Museum Museum
A museum with two branches, Muzeum Fryderyka Chopina includes both the composer's birthplace and the Chopin family parlor. Housed inside the Ostrogski Palace, the museum displays valuable documents, musical scores, and letters--some written in Chopin's delicate hand. A library of recordings draws music professionals from around the world for research and for pleasure. Frescoes in the attraction are supplemented with multimedia and interactive displays. Visit the website for a list of audio recordings of lectures and music related to Chopin. The museum also hosts concerts and contests, many of which are open to the public. • I have been in many museums, and this by far is the most complicated one that I have ever toured. If you can't figure out how the exhibits work, ask for help, otherwise, you will leave confused and di...  more »
  • As a musician, I had to make sure I went to this particular museum. It was unique in the was some of the exhibits were shown - like special "drawers" that when pulled out revealed a piece of music wri...  more »

  • While I greatly enjoyed the visit, seeing as I found it unexpectedly by walking past it, there are aspects to the museum that heavily detract from the experience. The museum is a detailed examination of Chopin's life, but it is managed like a funeral home, or like a church service when the coffin is in front of the altar. Instead of celebrating his life and music, it is like being at his funeral, which is an incredibly poor way to represent the richness of his life. All the visitors were quiet like church mice. It takes time to go through all of the written notes, some more video describing his life would have been easier to digest. There's a LOT of reading. Still, it's a great place to visit to learn more about such an iconic composer.
  • Interesting, but many exhibitions don't work, so you get isolated pieces of information which - if you don't know much about Chopin - hardly can be assembled in the whole story. And the explanation to the exhibition on english are made in such dark inexpressive colours that you have constantly to strain the eyes to read something.
  • One of the best museum I've ever seen ! Well organized, a lot of technology which serve music, we can discover at any age Chopin thanks to this museum. 5 stars !
  • All about chopin. Interesting displays, beautiful buildings, reasonable cost. But a lot of exhibitions were not working, out of order.
  • Well presented place, but nearly all items are a facsimile. Interactive sections were either Polish language with English subtitles or not working at all.

Where to stay in Warsaw

Many centrally located hotels in Warsaw cater mostly to business travelers, which makes them much too expensive for backpackers and other visitors on a limited budget. Although hostels may seem like the only affordable option at the height of the season, you can find less expensive lodgings in mid-range hotels on the outskirts of town. Alternatively, time your visit for the weekend, when many hotels near the city center slash their prices and offer special deals for early booking.
