  • Massive space, spread over five houses and six floors along one side of a square. The museum has over 80,000 artefacts of which 8,000 are planned to be on display. Approximately half the museum is emp...  more »
  • End of July 2017 was already 70% of the museum ready after the conversion and we have without on our watches to look just walked around three hours. What a lovely museum it is now already and if it will soon be complete, what will it than a top class Museum! The museum shows the history of the city of Warsaw through the ages. It is located in a row of houses in the Old City, so incidentally, you can also see how the residents of these houses ever lived. The first rooms, at the bottom of three to each other made houses, give facts, figures and statistics. That sounds boring but it is not! You see everything about the population structure, population and time lines, so that the number of inhabitants in one fell swoop, plummeted after the destruction of the ghetto and the Warsaw Uprising, but also amazing quickly recovered. You see oo, when the first pizzeria, the first escalator, the first jazz club in Warsaw showed up, and you see the scale models of famous buildings. The other meeting rooms spread over several floors, on the basis of thematic ordered objects see how one lived and worked in the city over the centuries. In particular the paintings and drawings are very illustrative. But also finds of glass and pottery, souvenirs of the past, silverware, all of those things of which you may think: now that is interesting, but yeah, that's it! Good explanations on signs everywhere. No fiddling with headphones or so, just look and sometimes a sign read. At the Department of earth work here look for the display case with room pots and especially the "gravy boat" for the ladies, you learn something! On the sixth floor, at the top of one of the houses, you can look through the Windows on the square of the old town and to the environment in other directions. On the begegane ground is an excellent museum shop. Few practical things: 1. the lift goes up to the second floor, the rest is (still?) with stairs, very comfortable steps yet. 2. we were out of the film room because we had to buy a ticket for, very awkward because no one tells you that here and that movie House is yet in the museum, so why do you have to have a separate ticket for? If they are smart, they will be better, because the film really belongs at this museum and is very very good. Entrance 20 zlt, film 10 zlt., make there than together 25 or 30, then you have a whole and need not to annoy people. 3. The planned Cafe was not open yet, but there are gastronomic possibilities enough to the museum. 4. Lockers and good toilets in the basement.

  • The museum is quite interesting to understand the history of the city and the country. Ask for the historical movie about Warsaw during WW II and the Nazy occupation. It is a hard and terrible doc abo...  more »

Where to stay in Warsaw

Many centrally located hotels in Warsaw cater mostly to business travelers, which makes them much too expensive for backpackers and other visitors on a limited budget. Although hostels may seem like the only affordable option at the height of the season, you can find less expensive lodgings in mid-range hotels on the outskirts of town. Alternatively, time your visit for the weekend, when many hotels near the city center slash their prices and offer special deals for early booking.
