  • The Church was originally built in the 14th century as a Mazovische Gothic church and served as a Coronation and burial place for various Dukes of Masovia. Here stood a wooden church that was replaced by a stone church. Because the Church was connected with the Royal Palace by a 80-metre-long elevated corridor, that at the end of 16th century built by King Anna Jagiellon and after 1620 extended after Michał Piekarski for the Cathedral a failed murder plot to assassinate King Sigismund III of Poland. In 1602, the Church, after which he was rebuilt several times in subsequent years. In the 18th century were crowned the Kings of Poland, Royal Weddings here closed and Royal funerals and burials of important persons. After the Church had become a cathedral in 1798, she was rebuilt in 1836 in an English neo-Gothic style. She was completely destroyed by the Germans during the Warsaw Uprising (August-October 1944). The Cathedral was between 1948 and 1956 under the direction of architect Jan Zachwatowicz rebuilt. The Cathedral was restored in the original gothic style, giving them the appearance of recovered before the renovation of 1836. The Cathedral has a star-shaped vault. In the right aisle are the epifaten of Polish Presidents Piłsudski and Paderewski, Furthermore, there is the tomb of the last Dukes of Masovia and the altar of the Holy Maximilian Kolbe. The classical monument of Małachowski, Marshal of the Sejm is manufactured by the Dane Thorvaldsen. In the Cathedral is also a circumcised choir stalls that was a gift of King Jan III Sobieski. The baptismal font dates back to 1632.
