Trip Planner: Europe / Poland / Southern Poland / Lesser Poland Province / Oswiecim / Muzeum Żydowskie i Synagoga
Founded to revitalize Jewish culture in the town of Auschwitz, Muzeum Żydowskie i Synagoga serves as both a place of worship and a museum. Part of the museum is an educational facility that aims to educate the public about the Holocaust. Take a tour of the synagogue and the museum to learn about the culture and daily rituals of the Jewish community that once made up the majority of the population of the town that later became infamous as a concentration camp. You'll also see the Kluger family house and any temporary exhibits. A tour request form online allows you to book in advance. We went to Krakow to Auschwitz with the Cracow Local Tours and the guide is guiding the visitor, so solemn and reverent. Asked in silence as we on camera of gaz and Crematorium. The silence remained until the end of the visit. We were witnesses of that madness. Not to be missed

Een reisdoel op zich. Absoluut beklijvend. Pas op: het wordt je als individuele bezoeker van Auswitsch niet gemakkelijk gemaakt. Info over excursies en gidsbeurten is er volop, over individuele bezoek... more »A destination in itself. Absolutely captivating. Warning: it gets you as an individual visitor to Auswitsch not made easy. There is plenty of info on excursions and guide, you will find almost nothing about individual visits. Following important tips: drive to camp I and be on time. Up to 10 h are there in the row of the paid guide also free tickets handed out. You visit Auswitsch than on your own. There are in the book business very good Dutch-speaking guides to get to 15 grozny. Use google maps to get to the camp. There is almost no signage near and very easy to find it is not. After 10 h is the camp complete with guide. After this, you as an individual visitor barely still inside. The camp and the museum are very strong. No long info signs (difficult to achieve with so many people), what strong photos, images and especially objects that speak for themselves. Never to be forgotten.
A moving taste of creative, constructive Jewish life in a town far better known for its assocation with the devastation of Europe's Jews. Glad I visited.
Definitively one of the most interesting places in South Poland. Most museums or memorials just tell the story of WW II but here they see history in the whole point of view. I was told how everything was before '39, the relations between politics and the time and the AJC showed me the nice city of Oświecim too. Awesome. The Auschwitz Camp has more than 1 Mio visitors per year and so little have seen the city. A pity. There is also a Jewish Cemetery, which is visitable - I got a great explanation of the ideas of a Jewish Cemetery and the differences to a Christian one. I recommend this place to everyone who comes to Poland.
Andrzej MeissnerNothing interesting.
Jana blahákováImaginative project, an interesting exhibition in the renovated synagogue (contributions from the US). I recommend.

Where to stay in Oswiecim
Most visitors to Oswiecim come from nearby Krakow, where they can take advantage of the larger city's greater variety of accommodations. Oswiecim remains a small town with few lodging options, so if you wish to stay near the major attractions, consider the few mid-range hotels and guesthouses located near the city center. Before making your final selection, check your options for getting to the area's main sites, the former Nazi concentration and extermination camps situated about 80 km (40 mi) west of the city.
