Wawel Cathedral, Krakow
(4.6/5 based on 3,400 reviews on the web)
Once the site of royal coronations, Wawel Cathedral represents one of Poland's most significant religious and architectural sites. Two previous buildings burned down here before the church was erected more than nine centuries ago. The present-day cathedral, a Gothic structure, features several chapels built in different architectural styles. As you enter, notice the chain hanging to the left of the main iron door. Made of prehistoric animal bones, this chain is known for having magical powers that ensure the continued presence of the cathedral. To learn more about the large collection of sarcophaguses and altarpieces, take a guided tour. To visit Wawel Cathedral and other attractions in Krakow, use our Krakow trip itinerary planner.

  • On some days the Cathedral you can visit for free. Better take a guide in Russian, then visit will not pass in vain. The Bell Tower climb. Krakow is a small town, little lookouts. And here top center shows perfectly. If the Guide does not have time or money sorry, down do not forget to come down, otherwise it will take time for nothing at all.

  • Majestically located on a hill on the edge of the beautiful historic center of the city, this set should be absolutely visited. We hope to return to deepen because we have not had the opportunity to visit the Interior of the royal palace.

  • The Baroque treatment of the altar area was very Impressive, and the artworks masterful. A lad at the entry offered a headset to borrow and said only a freewill contribution was requested, no charge, which was refreshing in this day when many churches charge for taking a look around. The recorded tour was easy to fear and follow. I was especially glad to see a display honoring St. John Paul II, who was ordained to the priesthood in this cathedral.
  • This Cathedral has a paid and free section. I did only the free bit of it and there is a section dedicated to Pope John Paul II which was completely rammed full of people paying their respects, praying and writing into a guest book - he is not buried here, but he is loved. Go for this.
  • An incredible unique and beautiful castle in the center of Krakow. There are lots of different areas to explore and interesting museums inside as well. Great way to spend a day with family.
  • Beautiful cathedral that's worth going into. it's quite majestic to go inside and see the grandeur and all the small chapels for different saints... A gem of history...
  • The buildings and grounds were beautifully preserved. The exhibitions professionally presented. The polish people were very friendly. I would recommend Kraków along side any European capital.
