Learn the history of the city's defensive walls at The Barbican (Barbakan), a historical gateway leading into the Old Town. The circular fortress with an inner courtyard and seven turrets was added to the city's fortifications along the coronation route in the late 15th century. Look for a tablet on its eastern wall commemorating the feat of a local burgher who defended the city by shooting a Russian commander with a coat button. Notice forwarded balconies with floor hatches that were used to pour melted lead, boiling oil, or to throw projectiles. Now the fortification hosts medieval pageants, jousting contests, summer concerts, and theater performances. • Simply great place, one of must-sees in Kraków. There are events inside from time to time which I'd definitely recommend to go to if you had a chance. It was a part of the wall that was around entire main square and surroundings. It's awful that in 19th century Austrian Guberium decided to destroy the walls.
  • One of the most characteristic old buildings in Krakow. Nicely looking outside. I've never been inside though.
  • Warto zobaczyć
  • Good to make the meeting point. Still looks like the doors of the city, in the old days.
  • Great building and fortification.
