Pharmacy Museum, Krakow
(3.8/5 based on 120+ reviews on the web)
Set in a historic 15th-century townhouse, Pharmacy Museum, one of the largest museums of its kind in Europe, features a collection of old laboratory equipment, rare pharmaceutical instruments, medical books, and documents. The building is worth visiting for its architectural features alone, including Gothic vaulted cellars, a Baroque ceiling covered with ornamental wallpaper, and Renaissance portals. See the full-scale reproductions of antique apothecary shops and an excellent display of traditional herbal medicines on the top floor. Audio and visual information provides testimonials about people's suffering during World War II. Learn about the Pharmacy Under the Eagle, which was kept by the “righteous gentile” Tadeusz Pankiewicz in the Jewish ghetto during the German occupation. Work out when and for how long to visit Pharmacy Museum and other Krakow attractions using our handy Krakow itinerary planner.

  • I'll preface this review with I am a pharmacist, so my interest may be different than someone non-medical. This was one of the highlights of my visit to Kraków! Prior to researching this trip, I had n...  more »
  • Permanent exposition of the Museum is located on all five floors. Even in one of the cellars there are deposits of the distillers, retorts, filters and much more. In the exhibition hall on the ground floor there are furniture from old drugstores, and badges of old pharmacies and pharmacy scales collection, and the first kerosene lamp. On the second floor you can see the table scales and pharmacy tools, pellet press, ancient pharmacy vessels. So much that dazzled!
