Pharmacy Museum, Krakow

(3.8/5 based on 130+ reviews on the web)
Set in a historic 15th-century townhouse, Pharmacy Museum, one of the largest museums of its kind in Europe, features a collection of old laboratory equipment, rare pharmaceutical instruments, medical books, and documents. The building is worth visiting for its architectural features alone, including Gothic vaulted cellars, a Baroque ceiling covered with ornamental wallpaper, and Renaissance portals. See the full-scale reproductions of antique apothecary shops and an excellent display of traditional herbal medicines on the top floor. Audio and visual information provides testimonials about people's suffering during World War II. Learn about the Pharmacy Under the Eagle, which was kept by the “righteous gentile” Tadeusz Pankiewicz in the Jewish ghetto during the German occupation. • Really splendid Museum, rich in content and trivia. The best part of all is the attic, but doesn't detract from the rest of the building. I highly recommend you check them out! :D

  • Walking down the street the battle, hardly anyone realizes that in one of the houses is a real jewel is hidden-Pharmacy Museum of the Jagiellonian University Collegium Medicum. We were exploring the Pharmacy Museum in Lodz and Warsaw, the House of Długosz in Sandomierz. But the Pharmacy Museum in Kraków really dazzled. Number and variety of collected exhibits dazzled. It is worth noting that the Museum is not open too long-usually 10-14:30. Before you visit it is look at the Web page and read the rules. For those working on a weekday is therefore in principle not available-unless someone has an afternoon or night shifts. On a visit to the Museum is worth to book at least 2 hours (and preferably 3). Exposures are on all floors. And it's not worth to hurry, not worth it ...

  • Some parts of this small museum are good but overall I wasn't blown away. We were in and out in 10 minutes and we had a lady follow us the whole way round even though there were others in there that w...  more »
