Muzeum Krakowa - Barbakan
Learn the history of the city's defensive walls at Muzeum Krakowa - Barbakan, a historical gateway leading into the Old Town. The circular fortress with an inner courtyard and seven turrets was added to the city's fortifications along the coronation route in the late 15th century. Look for a tablet on its eastern wall commemorating the feat of a local burgher who defended the city by shooting a Russian commander with a coat button. Notice forwarded balconies with floor hatches that were used to pour melted lead, boiling oil, or to throw projectiles. Now the fortification hosts medieval pageants, jousting contests, summer concerts, and theater performances. It's a beautiful construction that happens to be closed. The outside is spectacular enough to worth a quarter of an hour. Remarkable how they managed to preserve these old buildings throughout the city.

It's a beautiful construction that happens to be closed for visiting at the time of this review. The outside is spectacular enough to worth a quarter of an hour. Remarkable how they managed to preserve these old buildings all throughout the city.

Saw in night. Was closed due to some maintenance work. But amazing structure from outside. Old structure but very well maintained.
-
Great preservation to the place but please skip the multimedia slide show.. 30 zolty for a 20 min dictation of some stories and myths of Kraków? Not worth it. Can even hear the dictation from outside...
-
The entrance to Florianska Road. Krakow is such a great city. Walking around Barbican and the fortress is a great experience. For a moment it'll take you back to medieval times.
