Just outside the city, Krakow Zoo (Ogrod Zoologiczny) rests on a Jurassic plateau in a 17 hectare (42 acre) area. It is home to more than 1,400 animals including a herd of pygmy hippopotamuses and Przewalski horses, in addition to other animals. The latter only live in captivity, while many of the other zoo residents can be found in the wild in small numbers, such as snow leopards. Known for its successful breeding methods, the zoo shelters new animal babies--it is not uncommon to see a new cub or chick trotting after their mother in the habitats. You can purchase tickets at the attraction for a very affordable price, so consider taking a taxi to the zoo to save time. While there is no restaurant here, a cafe near the exit serves snacks and drinks.
