The Benedictine monastery of Tyniec is a kilometer or ten of Krakow and is easily accessible by bus. It is a magnificent monastery, you totally relax and you comes off the urban hustle and bustle. A visit does not have long to last, but that should be: you can visit the Church view (very nice), visit the small museum, visit the shop, drink coffee, an ice cream, lunch in the restaurant, enjoy the view of the Vistula, the cemetery about hiking and spending hours reading a good book. It can in an hour or in half a day. In the shop you buy liquors and beers that are made there, many kinds of jam and wine, fresh cheeses and sausages, bread, cookies, creams and soaps, beautiful cards, magnets and more nice souvenirs. There is a separate bookshop with lots of Polish books, but also nice bags and t-shirts and mugs. On the terrace you have views of the river and the beautiful surroundings. The coffee is not great but the juices are really fresh and the cake delicious. Dress code is neat, but no problem with shorts and a shirt. Cyclists in bicycle Kit just in May. We traveled there by bus. You have bus 112 and a ticket for 30 minutes (something of zlt, 4 cards in the machine.) The journey takes less than half an hour and goes along the South Bank of the Vistula River. You feel you let Krakow behind you and drive you through villages and hamlets, but you keep in reality within the city limits, in the District of Podgórze. In the bus you see on a screen at which stop you are. The bus leaves in Krakow at the bridge Most Grunwaldzki, which you, if you look at it from the Wawel Castle, must cross, so South of the river. Just walk straight, right after the bridge crossing, once again crossing but now to the left and you see the bus station. Trams also stop there. The bus leaves 1 x per 40 minutes, we had those of 10.52 and 25 minutes later stepped off the bus at busstop Tyniec. Hence you in ten minutes by the Benedictines Street direction River and monastery. The bus back rides again 1 x per 40 minutes upon arrival, check the departure times. Keep riding into the evening. We were lucky because we were able to take the water taxi back. That leaves once a day (!), at 13.30, starting from the foot of the monastery. Please note because there may be but 12 people with it. We were number 11 and 12 and the Sir after us had to take the bus. The boat is more expensive than the bus (30 zlt) but gives you a quiet mini-cruise upstream on the Vistula, by green fields and forests, past villages, hills and a beautiful monastery, through an exciting lock and sails you without stop until in the city, at the foot of the Wawelheuvel. Duration: 1.5 hours. It is a charming wooden boat with wooden benches and a table and a sail about it from Sun and rain. Gives you a special look on Krakow and surroundings, we were very happy with it!

This special and ancient monastery is excellent by bike, boat (water tram) or bus. It exudes a rustic atmosphere, but has a wide range of catering, which sell local produce such as coffee and ice cream in addition to the special non-alcoholic beer.

My family and I chose to visit this Abbey touring on the Vistula and taking advantage for seeing the sights of Krakow from a different point of view. Abbey beautiful setting characteristic ship-shaped pulpit.

Where to stay in Krakow

Krakow ranks among one of Europe's increasingly popular tourist destinations, which is reflected in the rising costs of comfortable lodgings. The best hotels are concentrated in and around the historical old town, where five-star luxury comes at a very steep price. Old town hotels place you just steps from fine shops and restaurants, as well as the city's main museums and galleries. However, if your trip involves a tight budget, avoid the central district and check out mid-range hotels and economical hostels in one of the outlying neighborhoods.
