Bazylika i Klasztor Franciszkanow, Krakow

Religious Site · Hidden Gem · Church
Home of a replica Shroud of Turin, Bazylika i Klasztor Franciszkanow was one of the first tall buildings in the city. The church touts remarkable stained-glass windows and murals by Stanisław Wyspiański. Because of the colored-glass panes, the interior bursts with bright hues on sunny days, highlighting other spots of inspiration like the tiles and vivid paint colors. The church is rarely crowded. Photos are allowed in certain areas of the building. • Very beautiful. The dark colouring in the paintings make it striking and unusual. The much plainer exterior may make you skip it but it is worth a visit.
  • We haven't visited the church itself but the garden outside is ideal for the picnic. You can also enjoy a view of the popes' John Paul's 2 famous window
  • Fascinating building from the 13th century, in fact the oldest one of it's kind in Europe. A beautiful animated cuckoo clock chimes every 3 hours and plays famous student anthem and polish traditional music. Well worth visiting
  • Lovely Church, as they all seem to be in Krakow. Worth a visit if your are exploring Krakow on foot.
  • Loved the tainded glass! Also when you go there please go on your own! I went with a guide and he rushed me so much that I have barely had time to sit down and enjoy it! The church is stunning and I can only imagine it being a fantastic place to hide from the sun and just fall in love with the craft of the master artists decorating it!
