  • We were quite surprised over this place. It didn't seem crowded at all (We went in February, could be why), and the exhibitions was really good. We paid 12pln each and got more than we expected - exci...  more »
  • Small but interesting Museum (turns into an hour) that collects local history. There is also a decent Egyptian section, with collection of Mummies and material of the Ptolemaic period. Museum "classic" style only Visual, no multimedia. Located on different floors, didn't see the elevators. It is the first museum archeo I visit in Eastern Europe, and here in Poland a real documented history between the bronze age and the medieval period I was a little surprised (the Romans there have never been any ...) The highlight of the Museum is one of the few finds of the early medieval period, the statue of Swiatowid. I found very interesting the section dedicated to the Neanderthal man, who hangs around the area of Krakow. Very nice scale wax statues 1:1 reconstruction of the populations that lived in the area from Neanderthals to modern times. The Museum also has a detached section, a Dungeon I think it was a prison but that having all the panels only in Polish language to me proved incomprehensible.

  • The Museum is not so big and about in an hour you visit all, however I found it very interesting, especially the Zbruch Idol ("Zbruch Idol"), is one of the few monuments belonging to the pre-Christian beliefs slaves survived until the present day. Since I had a little trouble finding the various times (here on tripadvisor are not there, and the site is only in Polish) I enter the photo with schedules and prices: on Saturday closed Sundays and admission is free.

  • One of the coolest museums I've ever seen. Definitely don't miss this place if you like archaeology or history itself. Free entrance every Monday.
  • Larger than it looks inside. Personally, the exhibits weren't very interesting and the museum was very dark (and slightly creepy due to this). There are automatic lights that turn on when you enter a new area but they take some time so I was walking in the dark into hallways alone most of the time. There's also a section where you can visit the underground prison. This was extremely creepy (again delayed light while you enter a prison cell) but fascinating as well.
  • My husband and I visited this place in July. The displays and exhibitions were beautifully laid out, with a good mix of old and new.
  • Awesome museum. Would have given it 5 stars if it had the English audio tour available. The Egyptian display is amazing, with 2 mummies on display, plus many other awesome things.
  • Very interesting for kids and parents. Free on Sunday.good egipt area

Where to stay in Krakow

Krakow ranks among one of Europe's increasingly popular tourist destinations, which is reflected in the rising costs of comfortable lodgings. The best hotels are concentrated in and around the historical old town, where five-star luxury comes at a very steep price. Old town hotels place you just steps from fine shops and restaurants, as well as the city's main museums and galleries. However, if your trip involves a tight budget, avoid the central district and check out mid-range hotels and economical hostels in one of the outlying neighborhoods.
