Tourist Spot
Spodek is a multipurpose arena complex in Katowice, Poland, opened in 1971 at ul. Korfantego 35 under the name Wojewódzka Hala Widowiskowo-Sportowa w Katowicach, under which it is known in the Polish technical/architectural literature, and under which it formally functioned until 1997.Aside from the main dome, the complex includes a gym, an ice rink, a hotel and three large car parks. It was the largest indoor venue of its kind in Poland until it was surpassed by Kraków Arena in 2014. It hosts many important cultural and business events. Music concerts are especially common non-sport events. Spodek can hold 11,500 people, although this number is in practice limited to 10,000 or even 8,000 due to stage set-ups obscuring the view. Its Polish name refers to a flying saucer . Spodek is a major contribution to the cultural significance of Katowice in Poland, especially for the younger generations. It has also been used as an unofficial logo for the city on posters promoting redevelopment in Katowice. Spodek is home to HC GKS Katowice ice hockey club in the winter months. It has played host to many up-and-coming bands, such as Chumbawamba in 1997, as well as dozens of world-famous bands. There are also held music festivals such as Rawa Blues Festival, Metalmania and Odjazdy.HistoryThe idea of building a large venue originated in 1955, while Katowice was temporarily renamed Stalinogród. A contest was held to select the best design. Initially, it was to be constructed on the outskirts of town, but the Voivodeship National Council decided it should be built near the city center. A mining waste dump site classified "2A" was chosen for construction.

  • Although for a long time from the outside does not look to bus station, in the middle of a super place for concerts, sporting events, hockey, trade shows or skating. Large object, but can not get lost in it. Most of the cool events or concerts it organized, if may take place in August in Silesia. locker room in the Middle, isolated place, good acoustics and a safe place. Many a time przezylo here have fun in the company of friends ticket at the bottom of the good polanczenie, even from outside, because near the bus station and railway station.

  • As one of the most recognizable objects in Poland compulsory tourist point in Katowice. Opened in the early 1970s still impresses with its unique design. Next is the observation deck. Nice view on the surroundings. Unfortunately, the terrace is not available for all. Input high, only stairs.

  • I went to the Intel Extreme Masters 2016 here and the show itself was awesome. The premium tickets worked great, could just walk past the lines and go right in, didn't have to show up 4 hours before the finals, we just arrived around 20 minutes earlier and got great seats. The exhibitions were a bit miss since they seemed to be in polish but that was expected. The available food could do with an improvement, beverages (sodas, energy drinks) were easy to find though. Found some excellent barista making coffee which was a plus. Wished there would have been better storage for jackets at the event, for premium visitors there were two stands for jackets out of which one was broken and there was no security for them. Seemed to be enough though as nothing was missing at the end. Perhaps because you needed to pay for expensive tickets to get there but still. So the event itself was great but organizing could have some upgrade.
  • Great venue, despite of the age. Quick to get from outside to your seat and also to leave. Location also great on the city. Food stalls could get a little improvement
  • IEM Katowiceeee!!! One of best events in csgo :)))
