Wang Church, Karpacz

Church Tourist Spot
Visit Wang Church to see a medieval Norwegian wooden church built without nails and held together by wooden joints. A Prussian king bought this 12th-century stave church from a village in Norway. The building was taken to pieces, shipped in boxes, and reconstructed in southern Poland in 1844. Check out the Norwegian architectural details carved in wood, such as lions, winged dragons, and runes. Look for a runic inscription on the doorway of the church, probably identifying artist Eindridi--nicknamed dexterous or handy--responsible for the decorations. The pathway near the church is lined with many stalls selling tourist gifts, food and hot drinks, beer, and vodka. • All the other reviews mention the story of this church, so I'll pass it. However, it is worth to mention that there is no a single nail in this wooden stave structure.  The parking around is very tric...  more »
  • Beautiful church in a scenic location with a great story behind it: a Viking church from the 12th century that was moved here in the 1840's by a Prussian king.  more »

  • A stunning Stave Church. Fantastic views over the valley too. A must-see for the family...
  • Unique and beautiful. Definitely worth to pay your visit.
  • Nice church. Have to buy ticket to get inside, absolutely no order to the lineups to get inside, people shoving their way in front of you, random groups suddenly allowed ahead of everyone in line, ticket vendor sells more group tickets than there are people allowed inside the church. It is beautiful, but don't waste your time going inside. Look at inside on google images.
  • Beautiful piece of sacral architecture! Definitely one of must-see's in Karpacz!
  • Beautiful church with original elements from the 12th century
