  • Cathedral of the assumption of the BLESSED VIRGIN MARY in gorzów Wielkopolski (German. Mariä Himmelfahrt--House in Landsberg [footnote needed]) is the oldest temple built at the end of the 13th century on the set of trzynawowego, pseudobazylikowego of the body of the Tower on the West façade and the sacristy in the shape of a rectangle, with the façade of the North, as the city parish church. Originally wore the title of the Virgin Mary and the eleven Thousand Virgins Saints [1]. Initially, the patronage of the church controlled the city, from 1299 collegiate chapter of Myśliborzu, and then the Teutonic order and the Brandenburg electors. Gorzów Cathedral, according to Christian tradition, was built in a specific way. The chancel had to be returned to the East, where in the day of judgement will come to Christ, the main entrance but was always from the West, opposite the main altar. Gorzów Cathedral is Gothic, however, you can find the elements of previous architectural style-the Romanesque. Romanesque is revealed above all in the timing of the temple and in the construction of granite ashlars. Is built of burnt brick, as indoor building with three naves. The original shape of the Church has changed in a minor way. In the 15th century chancel was added, and in the seventeenth century helmet on the South Tower in the Baroque style. More significant changes in the structure of the gorzów Cathedral took place in its interior. Originally the number of altars in the temple was seventeen. The movements of the iconoclastic at the time of the Reformation led to the liquidation of the sixteen of them. From medieval times remained just a few sculptures. From the end of the 16th century was the Temple of Lutheran, and the Interior has a significant transformation. In the years 1953-1956 again adapted to the needs of the Catholic faith. St. Mary's Church, the Cathedral was established on December 12, 1945, and began to serve as martyrium. There are tombs of the m.in. Bishops William Warsaw and Teodora Benscha. In 1997, a visit to the cathedral made John Paul II prayed at the tomb of the Bishop William of Warsaw. The most valuable part of the equipment of the Cathedral is Renaissance-Mannerist altar in the form of a triptych (originally poliptyku). 1600 in the predella of the altar shows the scene of the last supper, the Crucifixion scene above, and in the consummation of seldom scene with Jonaszem in the mouth of a whale. Side wings contain statues of the twelve apostles, coming in advance of the altar. The oldest equipment item inside a temple is the late-Gothic group of crucifixion lies on the Rainbow. In the Cathedral of our Lady of the assumption is the picture of the Church of the assumption of the Virgin Mary in Buchach. [2] on the outer walls of the Church (from the South) are preserved after you use the pan fire drill, which krzesano the fire during the ceremony. In the doorway of the West portal to spot numerous nails (nails) driven into the collection by the participants not to widows and orphans after the fallen in World War I (it was conducted in 1917).

  • ...befindet located in the heart of Gorzów and is definitely worth a visit. I found it very unusual for a church because it was pitch black inside, it was wet, cold and just a few candles were burning. So it must have been used in churches. Unfortunately not many historic buildings have survived in Gorzów as a result of the war, what is a very very painfully aware in this city!
