Archikatedra Oliwska, Gdansk

4.7
Full to bursting with valuable artwork, Archikatedra Oliwska serves as the final resting place of many of the region's prominent families. The great organ was designed in the 18th century by a Cistercian monk and features dramatic carved wood against the white vaulting above the congregation's heads. The angels balanced on top of the organ are movable. Other notable artworks adorn the walls and are worth a closer look as well. • The Olivsky cathedral looks pretty strict and ascetic. Built in Gothic style with baroque elements. Inside is spacious and bright. The organ of the cathedral is famous throughout Poland. It is capable to reproduce human voices and voices of birds and animals. Being in Pomorie it is necessary to visit the Olivsky Cathedral.

  • We went there at 9.30 in the morning. When we arrived, we felt lucky to find a seat in the church. It eas already crowded, and we soon understood why. The organ and the organ player was quite wonderfu...  more »
  • Weekend in Tri-City and search for interesting places. One of them is the archcathedral. We went to the organ concert and it is necessary to admit that it is a really interesting experience that we recommend Wszytskim.

  • The most beautiful baroque Cathedral in Poland with a supers work of art in the Great Organ well with a visit at any time of year, especially for main religious festivals,I will visit every time I am in Gdansk.
  • Such this old church, glad to see it inside. Would love to attend the mass if I can understand polish.
  • Fantastic place. Nice organ with a deep sound
  • Inside this cathedral is one of the largest pipe organs in all of Europe. What's great is that if you arrive just before 3pm weekdays, you are treated to an unforgettable organ concert that lasts about 30 minutes. It is a powerful concert where that organ has the ability to vibrate the seat you are in. All that is asked of you is a small donation. Well worth it. Afterwards you can explore the cathedral and it's interesting interior.
  • Very nice church and organ.
