Bledow Desert, Dabrowa Gornicza

#2 of 6 in Things to do in Dabrowa Gornicza
Błędów Desert is an area of sands between Błędów and the villages of Chechło and Klucze in Poland. The area lies mainly on the Silesian Highlands in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship. The Bledowska Sands is Central Europe's largest accumulation of loose sand in an area away from any sea, deposited thousands of years ago by a melting glacier. It occupies an area of 32km2. The sands have an average depth of 40m, up to 70m at the maximum. The Biała Przemsza River divides the desert in two from east to west. The Błędów Desert was not created naturally, but rather as a result of human activity which lowered the water table to such a degree that the ground could no longer support plant life. Beginning in the Middle Ages, area forests were aggressively cleared to meet the needs of local mining and metal working endeavors. This clearcutting exposed approx. 150 km2 of sand, which once reached as far north as Szczakowa.According to legend, the desert was created by the Devil, who wanted to bury the nearby Olkusz silver mine in sand. The desert was used as a military proving ground from the beginning of the 20th century. During the Second World War, the German Afrika Korps used the area to train soldiers and to test equipment before deployment in Africa.

  • My image here before was completely different and I felt the disappointment on the spot. Worth a trip to see, but the entire trip will come. The ban on the entrance of the desert is an additional. How much can you afford in a viewpoint 4mx4m and look into the distance, not being able to decorate yourself walk?

  • You might want to choose, especially in 35-degree heat. Place enough hard without a car, especially if you want to see our desert with few places. There are places more scenic and me, and you have to rush because... Salix cinerea seeds on a desert:)

  • Like I knew her from school and often I was driving near her, but I haven't seen with your own eyes. As I saw this shocked that there is such a place in Poland in Europe. I recommend everyone and be sure to read interesting facts about the desert on information boards.

  • Great place, it is worth seeing, although it's not Makaan Takla is. After all, one of the few Polish of this type. And by the end of the desert also is no longer, because systematically Salix cinerea seeds on from the edge, toward the center of the, without major obstacles. AHA! Walk after this it is not. Guided by the navigation system is very easy to get around. Navi directs in some stupid place on the highway and claimed stubbornly, that you are almost in the middle of the desert. Incomparably better follow the signs on the road. Such classic arrows how long ago, long ago were. How a man gets used is hard to overlook. My impressions? Super! Although specifically rather I would not chose. Well, maybe. Fortunately, lies in the hiperatrakcyjnym tourist region. I recommend strongly!

  • Very cool place especially after grubbing-up, you can see that someone consider this investment. The observation deck is at 100%. Well you can see from the panorama. Active I recommend prepared hiking trails so you can go from one entry to another. With a little luck you can find exercises paratroopers. Star I'm taking for fatal directions marking especially from the olkusz.

  • Only here you can see Poland disappearing desert area. I spent here a few days on the war games and say that area gave us a few important life lessons.

  • A fantastic place for reflection and rest. A very simple access, great historical descriptions on the site. A real treat for body and soul. Perfect for a long walk with the dog. I recommend 😊

  • This is a cool place for a picnic. Go to the forest (quite young but there are a few hiking trails). Silence, peace, cleanliness, no garbage. Unfortunately, the desert itself is heavily overgrown, in the few places you can see bare sand.
