An old castle town largely unspoiled during World War II, Kanazawa features well-preserved architecture spread across a range of districts.
On the 8th (Sat), take a memorable drive along Chirihama Nagisa Driveway. Keep things going the next day: steep yourself in history at Oyama Shrine, steep yourself in history at Nomura Samurai House, then steep yourself in history at Ainokura Gassho Community, and finally get engrossed in the history at Gassho Zukuri Minka-en.

Zurich, Switzerland to Kanazawa is an approximately 23-hour flight. The time zone difference when traveling from Zurich to Kanazawa is 8 hours. The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Nijo Castle and Fushimi Inari Taisha will appeal to history buffs. Get some cultural insight at Kiyomizu-dera and Ginkaku-ji Temple. Next up on the itinerary: take in the spiritual surroundings of Kinkaku-ji, steep yourself in history at Sanjusangendo Temple, and take a stroll through Gion.

Traveling by train from Kanazawa to Kyoto takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive. In July in Kyoto, expect temperatures between 36°C during the day and 28°C at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 13th (Thu) so you can catch the train to Hiroshima.

Grapple with history and appreciate modernity in Hiroshima, a city known around the world for its tragic past and inspiring rebirth.
Step off the beaten path and head to Hiroshima National Peace Memorial Hall for the Atomic Bomb Victims and Yamato Museum. Your inner history buff will appreciate Miyajima and Hiroshima Castle. Venture out of the city with trips to JMSDF Kure Museum (in Kure) and Hatsukaichi (Senjokaku & Daishoin Temple). Take a train from Kyoto to Hiroshima in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of train, flight, and ferry. Expect a daytime high around 36°C in July, and nighttime lows around 28°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 16th (Sun) early enough to drive to Matsue.

Matsue sits on the banks of the Ohashi-gawa river, channeling its waters through a series of canals and rivers that add much to the scenic aspect of the urban area.
Adachi Museum of Art and Yaegaki Shrine are good opportunities to explore the local culture. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Former Taisha Station and Izumo Hinomisaki Lighthouse. Explore Matsue's surroundings by going to The Mizuki Shigeru Road (in Sakaiminato) and Izumo (Hinomisaki Shrine & Shimane Museum of Ancient Izumo). Tourism in Shari-cho, a small town situated on Hokkaido's eastern tip, flourishes mainly because of its immediate proximity to the Shiretoko World Heritage Site.

Traveling from Tokyo in July, things will get a bit cooler in Shari-cho: highs are around 25°C and lows about 19°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 25th (Tue) early enough to travel to Miyakojima.
