Bantay Bell Tower, Vigan

Adjacent to Bantay Church, Bantay Bell Tower served as a watchtower for centuries, protecting against pirates and robbers since 1591. The Neo-Gothic tower stands out with its vibrant red brick color and use of clay. Although the steep stairs will likely leave you breathless, you'll find a piece of history at the top, in the form of the old bells locals used to ring to alarm the village in case of emergency. Surely, the vista of the deep blue South China Sea, mountains, green valleys, and the small village of bundled white houses will make all your aches seem worth it. • Not a very tall tower - only 2-3 flights of stairs so can be climbed pretty easily. The tower is quite small so can only fit 8-10 people at the top. Nice views of the city. Best to visit early to beat...  more »
  • We looked at the Bell Tower on a tour with horse-drawn carriage. Makes it in the morning because after that come the crowds and the temperatures are even tolerable. From above, there is a beautiful panoramic view of VIGAN. visit also the church next to it which is much nicer than the Cathedral in the Centre.

  • The old historic belfry of the church which served as a watchtower for pirates back in the Spanish colonial era. Established in 1590, the church is one of the oldest in the Ilocos Region. A truly historic and instagramable place.
  • If you go to Ilocos, Don't ever leave without visiting this place. It has a magic that lifts you to heights unimaginable. You will feel the peace and love of God by just looking outside from its ruined windows. The church yard could also be viewed from this tower. One of the most beautiful cemetery I have ever seen. Very clean and beautiful. The spiral staircase will not make you feel tired in going up. The garden is colorful. Best of all, the people are friendly. They would voluntarily help you if you need one.
  • Entrance is free but I would highly suggest to make a donation during registration to help them maintain the place. Tower closes at 5 pm so arrive before then. They lock the tower gates but I think you can still take photos outside of the tower. Souvenir shirts are cheaper here and almost similar to what was sold along Calle Crisologo in Vigan.
  • Visiting Vigan? This is a must-see place. Going up to the tower is quite scary due to the old structure but it's all worth it when you finally reach the top. Don't forget to give some donations before you enter so they can maintain this historical structure.
  • very nice view.. a piece of historic place... lot of tourist visits here
