Lake Balanan, Siaton

#6 of 13 in Nature in Negros Oriental
Lake Balanan is a lake situated in Siaton, Negros Oriental in the Philippines. It is a freshwater lake in the forested mountains of the southern portion of the island of Negros, with a shape resembling a figure of eight, the narrowest point between the two main portions of the lake being only 90m wide. The lake is surrounded by mountain ranges, and is fed by three tributaries, all located in the northern end. These are the Lamarao Creek at the northeastern corner with two waterfalls, the Balanan Creek at the middle of the northern end with another waterfall, and the Nasig-id Creek at the northwestern end.The lake has a humid tropical climate with two pronounced seasons, a dry season from November to April and a wet season for the rest of the year. The lake was formed by a tectonic earthquake with the magnitude of a 6.8 on the Richter scale that hit the southern portion of the island of Negros, and caused landslides in the southern ends of both the Balanan and Nasig-id ranges in Siaton. The fallen rocks and soil dammed the Balanan River that flowed between these mountain ranges forming a 25ha "humerus" bone-formed lake oriented along the Northwest-Southeast line. The lake and surrounding forests are currently being managed as a Watershed Area by the Bureau of Forest Development. A proposal has been made to designate the area as a Game Refuge and Wildlife Sanctuary to protect the large population of bats and other wildlife. This proposal was endorsed by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Region 7, in January 1987.

  • This Lake you should look at, while the arrival is a small adventure, for it but it's worth, there are also 3 pools in the middle of the jungle, a good restaurant, you can drive on the Lake with a boat and there is also a Zipline over the Lake , really recommended.

  • Lake Baba is a freshwater lake in the mountains in the South of the island of Negros Siaton. The Lake is situated beautifully with surrounding forests surrounded by mountain ranges, with a breathtaking view. A picturesque beautifully situated Park ideal for walkers. The hiking trail leads around the Lake. Many old beautiful gnarled Balete trees are the 10 - 20 meters large. It has a restaurant and a resort where you can eat. Some meters away there are still swimming pool where you can relax. Unfortunately, the access road to the Lake is about 10 km in a very bad state. Nevertheless, the trip is highly recommended for nature lovers.

  • So yes it's true the place fall into disrepair... Only the hotel (a bit expensive 28 euros 30 euros...) adequate rest restaurant offers not much to eat it is on... (for an afternoon and doable overnight anyway) and especially the "pool area" with a water coming directly out of a source (25 ° / 27 °?) that can be downright drink is great the place is squarely in the 'jungle' If you come during the week we're on being seu in the world in the corner... you can rent a boat to circumnavigate the Lake place and beautiful trees everywhere... Very quiet... relaxing... Are we talking a landslide in the place of the waterfall? last year in February 2017 the waterfall was still there...

  • Place is far from dumaguete but it's all worth the trip. One of the best places to enjoy nature. We enjoyed swimming in the pools, boat riding and hiking to the waterfalls.
